Our client is a market leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specialising in heavy industrial machinery. Operating out of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Western Sydney, they design, build, and maintain high-precision, complex equipment for customers across Australasia.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Assembly Supervisor, we are seeking an experienced Electrical Leading Hand to coordinate electrical activities on complex heavy machinery. You will lead day-to-day workshop tasks, mentor a dedicated team of electricians and apprentices, and support the electrical installation, wiring, testing and troubleshooting of machine electrical systems, ensuring safe and compliant electrical fit out.
This is a hands-on role combining technical expertise in industrial machinery with shop-floor team coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Coordination: Assign daily electrical tasks, lead pre-starts, toolbox talks, and mentor trade team members and apprentices.
- Fit-out & Assembly: Interpret electrical schematics, build instructions and wiring diagrams to oversee cable routing, termination, conduit installation, and component mounting.
- Testing & Fault Finding: Conduct continuity, insulation, and function checks; assist commissioning teams with electrical troubleshooting.
- Quality & Documentation: Ensure precise execution of allocated work, sign-offs, timesheets, and associated compliance records.
- Safety & Standards:
Maintain strict adherence to WHS, isolation/tagging procedures, permit systems, risk assessments, and tool maintenance.
- Continuous Improvement: Support 5S, Lean manufacturing, workflow standardisation, and process repeatability.
What We Are Looking For:
- Trade Qualification: Recognized Electrical Trade License / Qualification.
- Industrial Experience: Demonstrated background in industrial machinery wiring, heavy equipment fit-out, or complex manufacturing assembly.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead small, high-performing shop-floor teams and mentor apprentices.
- Technical Aptitude: Proficiency in reading complex schematics, using electrical testing/hydraulic test gear, PLC knowledge and fault diagnosis.
- Safety First Mindset: Strong knowledge of WHS standards, PPE compliance, and safe work procedures.
