Geotechnical Branch Manager
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Branch Manager to lead and grow a geotechnical engineering office. This role is responsible for overseeing branch operations, managing project delivery, developing client relationships, mentoring technical staff, and driving business development efforts. The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer with a strong geotechnical background and proven leadership experience.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations
- Manage day-to-day branch operations, including staffing, utilization, project performance, and financial results.
- Lead and mentor geotechnical engineers, project managers, field staff, and technical personnel.
- Establish goals, monitor branch performance, and ensure alignment with company objectives.
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and professional development.
Project Management
- Oversee the execution of geotechnical engineering projects from proposal through completion.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to company quality standards.
- Review and approve technical reports, analyses, recommendations, and design deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance on foundations, earthwork, retaining structures, slope stability, pavements, and related geotechnical issues.
Business Development
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, developers, contractors, municipalities, and industry partners.
- Identify new business opportunities and support strategic growth initiatives.
- Prepare proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and presentations.
- Represent the company at industry events, professional organizations, and networking functions.
Financial Management
- Manage branch profit and loss (P&L;) performance.
- Monitor project budgets, revenue forecasts, and key performance indicators.
- Support hiring plans, resource allocation, and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Ensure financial goals and growth targets are achieved.
Quality & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain high standards for technical quality and client service.
- Manage project risks and resolve technical, staffing, or client issues as needed.
- Promote a strong safety culture across office and field operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.
- 3+ years of leadership, department management, or branch management experience.
- Solid understanding of geotechnical investigations, foundation design, earth retaining systems, and construction support services.
- Proven experience managing client relationships and business development activities.
- Robust communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
- Experience managing project financials and branch operations preferred.

- Multi-disciplinary consulting engineering environment.
- Transportation, commercial, industrial, energy, or public infrastructure projects.
- Staff development, recruiting, and succession planning.
- Construction Materials Testing (CMT) and special inspections oversight.
