The Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association (SDA) is the largest union in South Australia and represents workers in retail, fast-food and warehousing. We fight for fairness at work and improving the lives of our members. The SDA is made up of over 33,000 members in South Australia, the Northern Territory and Broken Hill.

The Role

The SDA is seeking passionate and motivated individuals to join our team as Casual Union Reps. The Casual Union Rep role is for at least 15 hours per week at flexible times. It involves visiting workplaces in the retail, fast food and warehouse sectors to explain workplace rights, provide advice and encourage union membership.

Qualifications & experience

- Ability to work independently.

- Strong oral and written communication skills.

- Positive presentation and interpersonal skills.

- Be able to effectively multi-task,



manage competing priorities and have exceptional organisational skills in a fast-paced environment.

- Demonstrated commitment to trade union values.

- Must have a valid driver’s license.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Right of Entry Permit.

- Have work experience in retail or fast food.

Tasks & responsibilities

- Working independently visiting worksites.

- Encouraging current members to join the SDA in one on one and group settings.

- Answering queries about workplace conditions and entitlements.

- Assisting in the resolution of workplace disputes.

Benefits

- $37.44 casual rate (+ penalty rates and hourly service rate for vehicle costs)
