Mentor Counselling & Support For Young Men

Perth

[MEN]tor Counselling & Support For Young Men, are currently seeking reliable, motivated and caring male support mentors to join our team on a casual basis!

As a registered NDIS provider, we provide a relaxed and engaging approach to supporting young men aged 13-35+ throughout the Perth region. We support a diverse range of young men through several different support pathways, with a focus on building genuine relationships, supporting mental health and helping young men overcome challenges in their everyday lives.

This role is about being a positive male role model and someone our young men can build a genuine relationship with. You’ll support them with day-to-day tasks at home and out in the community, helping with things like life admin, getting active, trying new activities, having conversations, building confidence and developing the skills they need to become more independent.

We are ideally looking for someone who is available for around 10-30 hours per week across multiple days. This is a casual position, so hours will vary depending on our participants' needs and available shifts. We are looking for someone who has good availability and flexibility rather than someone who can only commit to one day per week or is looking for guaranteed full time hours.

Requirements:

- Based in or near the Perth areas where our participants are located. Applicants who live within reasonable travel distance of multiple participant areas will be highly regarded.

- Due to participant preferences and support needs, this role requires male mentors, generally aged 18-35.

- Available to work across multiple days of the week and flexible with different days and times depending on participant schedules.

- Ideally available for around 10-30 hours per week on an ongoing basis.

- Understanding of both physical and invisible disabilities including ASD, ADHD, Intellectual, Psychosocial and related behaviours.

- Resilience to support young men who may be unmotivated, resistant to support, experiencing challenging behaviours or, at times, under the influence.

- Commitment to ongoing training, including completing risk assessments and incident reports as required. This includes a willingness to learn and apply basic communication, rapport-building and emotional regulation strategies to help overcome resistance and build trust.

- Reliable to attend shifts at the designated time and able to work independently within support plans that have been created.

- Flexibility to work around our participants' changing schedules and cover other shifts when required.

- Strong communication skills to interact with young men, parents, team members, management and other industry professionals.

- Ability to participate in physical activities such as playing sports, bowling, trampoline centres, swimming, going on walks, hikes and other activities.

- Personal interest in sports, gaming, board games, fishing, bushwalking, swimming, cars, animals, art or pop culture is preferred.

- Experience in a support role or relevant qualifications in disability care, individual support, community services, youth work, mental health, counselling, psychology or social work is preferred.

Qualifications:

- Valid WA driver’s licence with a reliable, clean and fully insured vehicle to take young people around in [you will be reimbursed for travel].

- Rights to work in Australia.

- Police clearance [or able to obtain one].

- CPR training & First Aid certificate [or able to obtain one].

- Working with Children Check [or able to obtain one].

- NDIS Screening Check [or able to obtain one].

- NDIS Worker Orientation Module [or able to complete it].

Incentives:

- Competitive pay $35-$45 per hour [depending on qualifications and experience].

- Make a genuine difference in the lives of young men.

- Build genuine relationships with young men and see the progress they make over time.

- Get out of the office and do fun and rewarding activities during work hours.

- Freedom to work outside the office and be active.

- Work with a supportive team that genuinely cares about the work we do.

- Ongoing team-building events, fully paid for outside of work hours.

- Opportunity to earn higher rates for weekend shifts.
