About the role

Department 13 is an innovative Australian drone detection and Counter Drone technology company, delivering global solutions around the safety, security and protection of people and infrastructure.​

The Director of Security and Supply Chain Management is responsible for leading and integrating the organisation's security, procurement, logistics, inventory, export controls, and supply chain functions to support business, manufacturing, engineering, and Defence-related operations.

This role ensures the secure and efficient acquisition, management, and delivery of materials and components while maintaining compliance with Defence security requirements, the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP), Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), export control regulations, and organisational governance requirements.

The position plays a key leadership role in protecting personnel, assets, information, facilities, and supply chains through effective risk management, supplier engagement, security assurance, and operational oversight.

This position is based in our Canberra office.

Key responsibilities:

Security Leadership and Management

- Lead and manage the organisation's security program and security personnel.

- Act as Security Officer in accordance with the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) requirements.

- Provide subject matter expertise across personnel security, physical security, information security and governance.

- Develop, implement, maintain and continuously improve security policies, procedures, and operational controls.

- Ensure compliance with applicable Defence, Commonwealth, PSPF, DISP, export control, and organisational security requirements.

- Coordinate security clearances and personnel suitability assessments, including liaison with AGSVA and other government agencies.

- Conduct security risk assessments, audits, reviews, and assurance activities.

- Implement corrective actions to address identified security vulnerabilities.

- Manage security incidents and investigations including any reporting requirements

- Deliver and promote security awareness, education and training programs across the business.

Supply Chain and Procurement Management

- Develop and implement supply chain strategies that support manufacturing,



engineering, and operational requirements.

- Lead and manage the procurement activities for materials, components and equipment, ensuring all procurement activities comply with business policies and contractual requirements.

- Source, evaluate, and manage suppliers to achieve optimal service, quality, delivery, and cost performance.

- Raise and manage purchase orders and supplier agreements.

- Monitor supplier performance, lead times, delivery schedules, and contractual obligations completing ongoing reviews and evaluations as required.

- Manage pricing negotiations and continuity of supply arrangements.

- Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and supply chain efficiency including obsolescence management and sparing analysis.

- Oversee inventory planning and stock management activities, ensuring that component availability aligns with production schedules and project commitments while also minimising excess inventory.

- Lead investigations into supplier non-conformances and corrective actions.

- Lead and manage the product BOMs ensuring information is up to date.

Export Controls and Logistics

- Act as the point of contact for export control compliance matters, ensuring compliance with applicable Australian export control legislation and international regulations including ITAR requirements where applicable.

- Oversee domestic, import, and export logistics activities.

- Manage freight providers and shipping arrangements to ensure efficient and cost-effective transport solutions.

- Monitor shipment status and resolve logistics-related issues.

- Maintain accurate logistics documentation and records.

- Conduct internal assurance activities to identify export compliance risks.

- Support audits, investigations, reviews, and regulatory reporting obligations.

- Contribute to continuous improvement of export control policies,



procedures, and governance frameworks.

About you:

This is a senior role within the business. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following:

- Tertiary qualifications in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Security Management, Risk Management, Business, Engineering, or related discipline

- Australian Citizenship

- Hold or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2) Security Clearance

- Current knowledge of Defence security and governance requirements

- Current Defence Security Officer course completion certificate is preferred

- Export controls or international trade compliance training

- Demonstrated experience in supply chain, procurement, purchasing, logistics, or materials management within a manufacturing environment

- Experience managing supplier relationships, contracts, and procurement activities

- Experience supporting manufacturing, engineering, or Defence-related programs including the management of Bill of Materials

- Strong understanding of inventory planning, forecasting and materials management

- Demonstrated experience managing security operations and compliance programs

- Experience administering personnel security clearances and liaising with AGSVA.

- Sound knowledge of:

1. Defence Industry Security Program (DISP)

2. Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)

3. Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF)

4. Export controls, including ITAR

- Understanding of quality management systems and supplier quality processes.
