About the role
Parliament of Tasmania offers a supportive environment to enable our employees to do the best work of their career. We're looking to secure a Parliamentary Support Officer to support the House of Assembly and provide high-quality administrative, procedural, communication and research support to Officers of the House of Assembly and Parliamentary Committees.
As a trusted colleague, you'll have professional flexibility to perform the role while being empowered to build a sense of community at work. You'll report to the Senior Parliamentary Officer, Chamber and Procedure, and work closely with Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff, public officials and members of the public.
About Us
The Parliament of Tasmania is a meeting place where elected representatives meet to make laws, authorise the expenditure of public funds, scrutinise the government of the day, and give a voice to their constituents in the electorates. The Parliament is made up of three (3) separate Departments consisting of House of Assembly, Legislative Council, and Legislature - General.
Location
We foster a collaborative and engaging workplace. This role is required to be performed in person and on site at Parliament House, Hobart, and may involve work at additional locations depending on operational requirements. The role may require working long and unpredictable hours during sittings of the Parliament, including outside normal hours.

- Well-developed administrative, organisational and time management skills, including the ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Sound judgement, discretion and initiative, including the ability to maintain the security of confidential information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and explain complex operational matters clearly and professionally.
- The ability to work effectively and impartially with Members of Parliament,
parliamentary staff, public officials, external stakeholders and members of the public.
- Sound digital technology skills, including the capacity to operate and adapt business systems to meet operational needs.
- Knowledge of the role and function of the House of Assembly and the Parliament, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
- Have or be able to obtain a ‘National Police Record Check’

Essential Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, a Current Zealand citizen, or hold a current visa which allows you to work in Australia in a permanent full-time role.
