Forest Management Branch plays a critical role in shaping the sustainable future of WA’s native forests by modelling forest resources, planning ecological thinning, and supporting forest operations. Through advanced remote sensing, natural resource inventories, and disease mapping, FMB monitors forest health across the Southwest. It delivers strategic and operational planning, maintains silvicultural records, and provides expert policy advice and corporate information services - ensuring forest management is guided by science, precision, and long-term vision.

We currently have an opportunity for a Program Leader Forest Operations Planning to join our team.

At a professional level and with limited direction, this position leads the identification, prioritisation and scheduling of Forest Enhancement Areas to support implementation of the Forest Management Plan 2024-2033. The role ensures planning is evidence-based, transparent and aligned with environmental, cultural, regulatory and operational requirements, while developing systems, tools and metrics to assess effectiveness. It also manages the works program and provides technical leadership, advice and reporting across the Branch and with key stakeholders.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.

1. Considerable knowledge and experience in forest planning, ecological forest management or natural resource management, including the application of statutory, strategic and operational planning frameworks to support sustainable forest management, forest health, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.
2. Demonstrated leadership, supervision and mentoring skills, with the ability to manage programs of work, collaborate effectively within a management team, and deliver outcomes in a complex environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
3. Extensive experience in the application of GIS,



remote sensing, forest inventory, resource assessment and decision-support tools to support forest planning, landscape prioritisation, monitoring and reporting.
4. Well-developed communication, consultation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports and provide clear technical and strategic advice on complex forest management, planning and policy matters.
