About the role

The Work Health & Safety Officer will be responsible for maintaining the Health & Safety requirements of the business, spending part of their time in the workshops, including delivering training to workshop staff. This role also includes an administrative component.

Key responsibilities

- Maintain knowledge of WHS legislation, company policies and procedures, and document evidence of compliance

- Ensure all items encompassed by WHS are compliant under current regulations

- Organise, administer, diarise and maintain records of the Work Health Safety system

- Oversee the operation of the Work Health Safety system with the Workshop Manager and Stores Officers

- Create and maintain registers for assets, chemicals, equipment, training and incidents

- Create training content, documents, videos and forms, and design and manage the rolling training program for machinery, tools, equipment, PPE and safety

- Work with Managers and Stores Officers regarding the integration of new substances, storage and decanting of hazardous substances

- Regularly inspect the premises to detect potential hazards and organise preventative measures in consultation with the Workshop Manager

- Organise fire drills and evacuation practices

- Participate in the investigation of accidents, injury and near misses, and prepare materials and evidence in case of hearings,



lawsuits and insurance investigations

- Assist with organising repairs and maintenance of buildings and equipment

- Organise external training, health assessments and license renewals

- Stock take and replenish first aid kits, scan and save accident books, and ensure protocol is followed

- Perform new employee WHS inductions

- Assist with ongoing improvement of WHS systems, procedures and records

- Conduct WHS inspections and risk assessments

- Perform day-to-day administrative duties and assist with short-term, long-term and project-based tasks as delegated by management

- Assist callers with enquiries and parts sales when required

- Respond in a qualified manner to emails assigned to you

- Experienced in Work Health & Safety

- Efficient, professional and discreet

- Adaptable in a small business

- Self-motivated, organised and proactive

- Strong communication and teamwork skills

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook, Word and Excel)

- Able to manage multiple priorities

- Prepared to be hands on and in workshop spaces
