We bring the energy – through purpose and people.
Help shape the safe, secure and reliable operation of Victoria's transmission network.
As a Senior Operational Systems Engineer, you'll provide specialist engineering expertise in operational network modelling, network capability assessments and operational systems that support real-time decision making across the Victorian transmission network. Your work will directly influence network security, outage planning, commissioning activities and the successful integration of a rapidly evolving power system.
You'll play a key role in developing and maintaining operational network models, operating limits and Advanced Energy Management System (AEMS) functionality, partnering closely with Real-Time Operations, Operational Technology, Network Access, Asset Management and Project Delivery teams to ensure the network operates safely and efficiently.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity based in Melbourne CBD, with a hybrid work arrangement (office/WFH) and is part of the Transmission Operations Planning team.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
- Lead complex network capability and contingency assessments across normal, outage and abnormal operating conditions
- Develop and review operational limits, secure operating envelopes and transfer capabilities that support network security
- Provide specialist engineering advice on outages, commissioning, energisation activities and operational risks
- Support commissioning, testing and operational readiness activities for new and upgraded network assets
- Contribute to the enhancement of AEMS, SCADA and operational technology systems that improve situational awareness and decision support
- Provide senior technical input into Real-Time Contingency Analysis and operational system functionality
- Mentor and support engineers in operational modelling,
network representation and assessment practices
- Partner with key stakeholders to assess operational risks and ensure network models accurately reflect a changing power system
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
- Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering
- Eligibility for Victorian Professional Engineer Registration
- Experience in power system modelling, transmission operations or related power system engineering disciplines
- Solid understanding of transmission network capability, operational limits, contingency analysis and system security
- Experience with EMS/AEMS, SCADA, ratings management systems or operational technology systems used to support real-time network operation
- Strong power system analysis, contingency assessment and operational risk evaluation capability
