The solicitor will be responsible for providing high-quality legal advice, support and representation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. The role includes participation in community outreach clinics, court support and delivering community legal education. You will have opportunities to represent Binaal Billa in FVPLS forums and to work collaboratively with key stakeholders. This is a highly rewarding role with scope to expand service delivery and contribute to achieving Closing the Gap outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and representation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victim-survivors of family violence
- Participate in community outreach clinics
- Provide court support

- Manage a diverse and complex workload independently or under supervision
About you
- Eligible to hold or currently holding a practising certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW
- Understanding of, or willingness to develop knowledge about, legal issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, children and communities
- Ability to provide culturally safe and respectful legal services
- Strong time management, research and analytical skills with the ability to manage a diverse and complex workload independently or under supervision
- Experience in, or knowledge of,
community legal centres or the community legal sector
- Willingness to participate in outreach and community engagement
- Desirable: Minimum 2-5 years post-admission experience in Australian jurisdictions, preferably in ADVO and/or family law matters

Binaal Billa Family Violence Prevention Legal Service (FVPLS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) based in Forbes, NSW. Binaal Billa is auspiced by Yoorana Gunya Family Healing Centre Aboriginal Corporation. We provide case management and free legal advice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims/survivors of family violence and/or sexual assault. Our services include: court support, victims compensation, advocacy, community legal education, assistance with ADVOs, family law, care and protection matters, and parenting plans. We ensure all services are culturally safe, trauma informed and community centred.
