- Fixed-Term 12 months- Full Time at 80 hrs per f/n (with monthly ADO's)

About Our Team

The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) is key to providing integrated and timely diagnostic capabilities as part of the largest public pathology laboratory network in Victoria.

Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs, including trauma, organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialized units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology.

Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership and are delivering pathology services at Western Health (WH), which includes, collection centres, branch laboratories at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital and point-of-care services. We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services.

Position Summary

The Point of Care Officer will serve as the primary contact for all point-of-care devices (POCD) across Western Health wards, clinics, the New Footscray Hospital (NFH), and Sunshine (SH) Laboratory’s. The role will encompass responsibilities such as coordinating staff training, conducting competency assessments, and maintaining accurate training records for all personnel using POCD within Western Health. Additionally, the Point of Care Officer will oversee instrument maintenance, manage reagents and consumable pre-acceptance testing, and ensure compliance with Quality Assurance Programs (QAPs) for all POCD. This position also involves ensuring that all analysers are enrolled in appropriate QAPs, establishing mechanisms for timely performance reviews, and investigating any identified performance issues to maintain high-quality standards in point-of-care testing.

About You

Qualifications Required:

- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Scientist) or recognised equivalent.





Experience and Skills Required:

- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a pathology laboratory in a scientific, point-of-care, or quality assurance role or similar.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Computer proficiency and sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent negotiating and stakeholder management skills.
