About the Role
Our client is a VIC government organisation based in Malvern VIC.
They are currently seeking an Accounting Officer (Accounts Receivable) to come in and work with them on a temp contract opportunity until 4th December with possible extensions.
Requirements for this role include:
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or similar
Proven ability to work autonomously to achieve the objectives of Finance and provide efficient Accounts Receivable and general accounting services in a timely and accurate manner.
Proven experience as an Accounts Officer or Assistant Accountant
Previous government experience (Desirable not essential)
Key responsibilities include:
Accounts Receivable Workflow Management: Oversee end-to-end AR and general accounting operations to ensure accurate, timely service delivery aligned with Finance objectives.
Stakeholder Communication & Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for debtor inquiries and manage the central mailbox to maintain high-quality internal and external communication.
Reconciliations & Adjustments: Perform timely account reconciliations, process refunds, and resolve complex adjustment errors and discrepancies.




Aged Debt Collection & Departmental Support: Coordinate debt collection by analysing payment histories, credit lines, and payment plans while supporting Council departments in facilitating recoveries.
Revenue Recognition Compliance: Ensure proper monthly and annual revenue recognition in full alignment with relevant accounting standards.
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare high-quality, insightful monthly financial reports and end-of-year revenue statements.
Process & Policy Continuous Improvement: Drive the review, development, and implementation of Council's finance policies, procedures, and systems to optimise performance.
