POSITION SUMMARY
The Global Payroll Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of payroll across the Group's global operations through the Deel platform and associated payroll providers.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring the incumbent to actively process, review and manage payroll activities while establishing and leading a newly centralised global payroll function.
The role combines operational payroll execution, compliance management, system administration, payroll accounting support and continuous improvement responsibilities.
Success in this role will depend on a keen eye for detail and the ability to build strong relationships across the organisation, bringing together Finance, Human Resources, business leaders, employees and external partners globally to solve complex payroll challenges, improve employee experience and drive consistent global payroll practices.
The Global Payroll Manager will act as a trusted advisor and key point of contact for payroll-related matters, identifying practical solutions to support a rapidly growing and geographically diverse workforce.
As the organisation continues its global expansion, the Global Payroll Manager will be responsible for ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, maintaining compliance across multiple jurisdictions, and developing scalable payroll processes that support future growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Global Payroll Processing (Hands-On)
Personally manage and execute end-to-end payroll processing across multiple countries and jurisdictions.
Prepare, review and validate payroll inputs.
Review payroll calculations and exception reports to ensure accuracy prior to payroll approval.
Coordinate and manage payroll funding requirements and payment schedules.
Resolve payroll queries from employees, managers and stakeholders.
Manage payroll corrections, off-cycle payments and payroll adjustments as required.
Payroll Platform Administration
Serve as the primary administrator and business owner of the Payroll platform.
Configure and maintain payroll workflows, approval processes and system controls.
Manage employee onboarding and payroll setup within the Payroll platform.
Partner directly with Deel support teams to resolve operational issues.
Drive automation and process improvements to reduce manual intervention and improve efficiency.
Develop and maintain payroll reporting and analytics.
Payroll Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with payroll, taxation, superannuation, social security and employment legislation across all operating jurisdictions.
Establish and maintain payroll policies, procedures and documented controls.
Monitor legislative changes and implement required updates.
Coordinate annual payroll reporting obligations and statutory filings.
Support audit requests and maintain audit-ready payroll documentation.
Payroll Accounting & Reconciliations
Prepare and review payroll reconciliations for all payroll-related accounts.
Partner with Finance to ensure timely and accurate payroll journals and month-end reporting.
Reconcile payroll clearing accounts, liabilities and employee benefit balances.
Support annual financial statement disclosures relating to employee benefits and remuneration.
Assist with budgeting and forecasting of employee costs.
Payroll Transformation & Continuous Improvement
Lead the ongoing transition to a centralised global payroll operating model.
Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate payroll processes.
Develop global payroll standards while accommodating local legislative requirements.
Support the integration of newly acquired entities and expansion into additional countries.
Establish payroll KPIs and service standards.
Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary point of contact for payroll-related matters across the organisation.
Provide payroll education, support and guidance to managers and employees.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential: 7+ years' experience in payroll operations, including significant hands‐on payroll processing responsibilities.
Essential: Experience processing payroll across multiple international jurisdictions.
Essential: Demonstrated experience managing payroll through Deel or equivalent global payroll platforms.
Essential: Strong understanding of payroll taxation, employment obligations and statutory reporting.
Essential: Experience performing payroll reconciliations and supporting financial reporting requirements.
Essential: Robust Excel skills and systems capability.
Essential: Proven ability to operate independently in a lean, growing environment.
Desirable: Experience within an ASX-listed or multinational organisation.
Desirable: Payroll transformation, implementation or centralisation experience.
Desirable: Experience supporting acquisitions and rapid international growth.
Desirable: Accounting qualification (CA/CPA) or payroll certification.
