About the Role
n
We are seeking an experienced Legal counsel to support the Legal Manager in providing practical, timely and commercially focused legal advice across Geely's Australian operations.
n
The role will have a strong focus on:
n
n
advertising and marketing material review;
n
Australian Consumer Law compliance;
n
intellectual property matters;
n
customer complaints and disputes; and
n
general legal and compliance support.
n
n
The successful candidate will work closely with Marketing, Sales, Aftersales, Product and other business teams on national advertising campaigns, retail offers, product communications, customer matters and compliance initiatives.
n
This role would suit a lawyer with at least 3+ years of relevant experience who is comfortable managing matters independently, identifying practical legal risks and working in a fast-paced, growing consumer and automotive business.
n
About the Team
n
You will report directly to the Legal Manager in Australia.
n
You will also work with Geely's Legal & Compliance Department at its headquarters in China in relation to global policies, cross-border matters, intellectual property, privacy, data protection and broader compliance frameworks.
n
The role involves regular collaboration with Marketing, Sales, Aftersales, Product, IT, Finance and other business functions to deliver clear, practical and business-focused legal support.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
Advertising, Marketing and Australian Consumer Law
n
n
Review advertising, marketing, promotional and retail materials for compliance with the Australian Consumer Law and other applicable requirements.
n
Advise on pricing claims, savings representations, comparison rates, vehicle specifications, availability statements, promotional conditions and other consumer-facing representations.
n
Draft and review DISCLAIMERS,
campaign terms and conditions, retail offer terms, competition terms and customer communications.
n
Work closely with Marketing, Sales, Product and Finance teams to ensure that advertising claims are accurate, appropriately substantiated and consistent across different channels.
n
Maintain and update standard disclaimer templates, advertising guidance and internal review processes.
n
Identify potentially misleading, deceptive or otherwise high-risk representations and recommend practical amendments.
n
Advise on day-to-day intellectual property matters, including trade marks, copyright, brand assets, campaign materials, images, music, software and third-party content.
n
Review licences, releases, image and content consents, sponsorship arrangements and intellectual property provisions in commercial agreements.
n
Assist with trade mark portfolio matters, brand protection and the appropriate use of Geely and ZEEKR intellectual property.
n
Support the business in responding to suspected intellectual property infringements or unauthorised use of brand materials.
n
Liaise with external legal advisers and headquarters legal teams on intellectual property registrations, disputes and enforcement matters where required.
n

Customer Complaints and Dispute Management
n
n
Provide legal support in relation to customer complaints, warranty disputes, consumer guarantee claims and regulatory enquiries.
n
Review complaint histories, technical reports, service records and other supporting evidence.
n
Draft or review customer correspondence, settlement communications, regulator responses and internal legal recommendations.
n
Maintain appropriate complaint records, evidence logs and matter trackers.
n
Work with Aftersales, Customer Care, Product and dealer teams to identify legal risks and support practical resolution strategies.
n
Escalate significant, sensitive or potentially systemic issues to the Legal Manager promptly.
n
Assist with matters involving consumer regulators, fair trading authorities, tribunals or external dispute resolution bodies.
n
n
Compliance and Regulatory Support
n
n
Conduct legal and regulatory research and prepare concise, plain-English guidance for the business.
n
Support the implementation and maintenance of compliance policies, procedures, registers and control frameworks.
n
Assist with compliance monitoring, internal reviews, training programs and awareness communications.
n
Maintain the compliance calendar, policy library, training records and related documentation.
n
Support compliance initiatives relating to consumer law, privacy, franchising, competition law, anti-bribery and corruption, modern slavery and other relevant areas.
n
Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and assist in assessing their impact on the business.
n
n
Commercial Agreements
n
n
Draft and review commercial agreements, including supplier and service agreements, statements of work, non-disclosure agreements, licences, releases and standard form documents.
n
Prepare clear contract summaries, risk assessments and deviation tables.
n
Identify key legal and commercial risks and recommend practical solutions.
n
Support contract execution, document management and related internal approval processes.
n
Liaise with business stakeholders, external legal advisers and counterparties as required.
n

Qualifications and Experience
n
n
At least 3 years of relevant post-admission legal experience gained in-house or in private practice.
n
Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor or equivalent legal qualification.
n
Admission as an Australian legal practitioner.
n
Demonstrated experience reviewing advertising, marketing materials and consumer-facing communications.
n
Sound knowledge of the Australian Consumer Law, including misleading or deceptive conduct, pricing representations, consumer guarantees and promotional offers.
n
Experience handling customer complaints, disputes or regulatory matters.
n
Experience advising on intellectual property matters, including trade marks, copyright, licensing and content usage.
n
Strong legal drafting, analytical and communication skills.
n
Ability to provide clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice.
n
Robust attention to detail, organisation and matter-management skills.
n
Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively with both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
n
Experience in the automotive, retail, technology or consumer products sector.
n
Experience working with advertising agencies, marketing teams or national retail campaigns.
n
Familiarity with dealer, franchise, distributor or service networks.
n
Working knowledge of the Privacy Act ****, Australian Privacy Principles and the Franchising Code of Conduct.
n
Experience preparing responses to regulators, tribunals or external dispute resolution bodies.
n
Experience working in a multinational or cross-border business environment.
