About the Role: We are currently seeking an experienced, full-time Welder (First Class) to join our Melbourne workshop team.
The successful candidate will cut, shape, join and repair metal components used in structural steel systems and custom-fabricated construction products.
You will interpret technical drawings, prepare materials, perform high-quality welding and ensure completed products meet project specifications, quality requirements and applicable safety standards.
Key Responsibilities: Study engineering drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
Select, clean and prepare metal stock for fabrication and welding.
Measure and mark out metal components according to drawings and specifications.
Cut metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame-cutting equipment and metal-cutting machinery.
Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hand tools, machinery, heating and forming techniques.
Position and align components using measuring instruments, clamps and other appropriate tools.
Join metal components using MIG, TIG and arc welding techniques, as well as bolting or riveting where required.
Weld structural steel components and custom-fabricated products in accordance with project specifications.
Examine completed welds for bead width, penetration, strength, alignment and precision.
Identify welding defects and undertake necessary repairs or corrective work.
Clean and smooth welds by grinding, filing, polishing and other finishing methods.
Repair damaged or worn metal components and structural steel products where required.
Operate welding, cutting, grinding and other metalworking equipment safely and efficiently.
Maintain welding equipment and keep the workshop clean, organised and safe.
Comply with workplace health and safety procedures and applicable quality standards.
Work collaboratively with engineers, supervisors and other tradespeople to meet production schedules.
Skills Experience Required: AQF Certificate III or IV in Engineering – Fabrication Trade, Welding or an equivalent relevant trade qualification.
Minimum two years of relevant post-qualification experience as a Welder (First Class) or in a closely related welding position.
Demonstrated experience welding structural steel and fabricated metal components.
Solid practical skills in MIG, TIG and arc welding techniques.
Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and measurements.
Experience using welding equipment, grinders, cutting tools and other metalworking machinery.
Sound knowledge of weld preparation, welding procedures, fabrication tolerances and weld-quality inspection.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team.
Construction Industry White Card and a valid Australian driver's licence are preferred.
