Position: Head of Software Development Position Type : Full-Time Salary : $178,****** plus 12% superannuation per annum (Total package $200,*****) Location: Sydney NSW **** Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Software Development to join their team in Sydney, New South Wales.
The Head of Software Development is responsible for defining and executing the company's software development strategy to support business growth, operational efficiency, and product development.
This role works closely with business stakeholders across to identify opportunities where software systems can improve processes, automate manual tasks, and deliver scalable solutions.
This role leads the architecture, design, development, integration and ongoing improvement of software system and infrastructure, ensuring that all systems are secure, reliable, and aligned with the company's strategic objectives.
As the company's technology function continues to grow, the Head of Software Development will play a key role in building internal capability, driving innovation, and ensuring the business is equipped with the software solutions and digital platforms needed to scale effectively.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Software Technology Strategy •Define and maintain software architecture and engineering roadmap, ensuring alignment with business priorities and long-term growth objectives.
•Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend practical, cost-effective software solutions suited to operational environment.
•Establish software engineering standards, best practices, and governance frameworks across the technology function.
Product Internal Systems •Lead the design, development and continuous improvement of internal systems that support operations and client service delivery.
•Partner with stakeholders across the business to understand requirements, prioritise initiatives, and deliver solutions that are user-friendly, scalable, and maintainable.
•Lead the full product lifecycle for internally developed software tools and platforms, from requirements through to deployment and support.
Business Process Automation •Identify manual and repetitive processes across departments and design and implement automation initiatives that reduce operational overhead.
•Promote a culture of continuous process improvement through the development and adoption of appropriate software solutions and automation tooling.
•Measure and report on the efficiency gains delivered through automation initiatives.
AI Enablement •Identify practical opportunities to incorporate AI into software systems and business workflows, with a focus on improving employee productivity and operational outcomes.
•Develop and integrate AI enabled solutions in a manner consistent with policies, security requirements, and business objectives.
•Stay abreast of developments in AI and assess their applicability and value to specific operational context.
System Integration •Design and implement integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms, including CRM, trading infrastructure, payment providers, and back office tools.
•Ensure reliable and secure data flow across all business applications and external integrations.
Data Reporting •Support the design and development of centralised data solutions, promoting data quality, consistency, and accessibility across the organisation.
•Support the development of reporting capabilities that provide timely, accurate, and actionable business insights to stakeholders.
•Encourage and embed data-driven decision making across departments.
Software and IT Operations •Ensure software systems remain secure, stable, and well maintained, with appropriate monitoring, documentation, backup, and disaster recovery practices in place.
•Maintain appropriate software development, security and operational standards in accordance with relevant security and data protection requirements.
•Troubleshoot and resolve complex software and integration issues, including incident response and escalation where required.
Team Leadership Development •Build and mentor software development team as the business grows, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
•Promote strong cross-functional collaboration between software development and business teams.
•Encourage knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and engineering excellence within the team.
Requirements: •Bachelor's degree or higher in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
•Minimum five (5) years' experience in a senior software development or technical leadership role, ideally within financial services, fintech, or a similarly regulated environment.
•Strong technical background with the ability to engage credibly with software engineers and architects as well as senior business stakeholders.
•Demonstrated experience delivering software development, product development, software architecture, and systems integration in a complex operational environment.
•Practical experience designing and implementing automation solutions and AI-enabled workflows.
•Solid understanding of data architecture, reporting infrastructure, and business intelligence tooling.
•Familiarity with the technology stack relevant to financial services operations, including CRM platforms, trading infrastructure, payment systems, and back office tools.
•Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
•Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing software development teams.
•Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a track record of delivering outcomes in a rapid-paced environment.
