Job Description
Who is Shift?
n
At Shift, we're business specialists dedicated to helping Australian SMEs take control of their cashflow, streamline trade terms and choose the right financial products.
n
We believe Australian businesses are the driving force behind our economy and are core to our communities. That's why our business expertise, focus on relationships, and market-leading technology is at the core of everything we do. We've helped solve the credit and payment pain points for more than 30,000 businesses, providing over $6 billion in aggregate funding.
n
Our unique approach to product innovation combined with our collaborative culture means you can build your career in a supportive environment. You'll be joining a diverse team of over 300 people who are always looking to deliver better outcomes for Australian businesses.
n
About the role
n
This is a build-your-career-here role, not a stepping-stone. You'll learn cloud infrastructure and security the way Shift actually does it: hands‐on, with real ownership, working alongside engineers who'll teach you things you won't pick up from a course.
n
What you'll do
n
n
Support the design, build and integration of security solutions across Shift's applications and tooling.
n
Help maintain and improve the secure infrastructure underneath Shift Online, Shift Trade, Shift Partner and TM Vault.
n
Get hands‐on with our automated deployment pipelines and DevOps best practice.
n
Assist with security testing and vulnerability scanning.
n
Build your radar for current security threats, vulnerabilities and industry trends.
n
Be the first line of support for infrastructure requests: triaging,
troubleshooting and escalating where it genuinely needs a senior engineer.
n
Contribute to policies, risk assessments and security controls as you build your expertise.
n
n
What you'll bring
n
n
1-2 years' experience in a cloud infrastructure or security-focused role, or a relevant tertiary qualification with demonstrated interest (projects, internships, personal builds).
n
Exposure to at least one scripting or programming language (Python, PowerShell, Bash or C#).
n
Some familiarity with Azure (IaaS/PaaS).
n
Awareness of Docker, Kubernetes and Helm, and a genuine appetite to go deeper.
n
A foundational understanding of security concepts (IAM, WAF, vulnerability management).
n
Curiosity about CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Enterprise, GitOps or Octopus Deploy.
n
The adaptability to pick things up fast, and the accountability to own your patch rather than wait to be told what's next.
n
n
Key benefits
