Tier 2 AWS Platform Operations Engineer
Melbourne CBD | Hybrid – 2–3 days per week in the office

We're looking for a
Tier 2 AWS Platform Operations Engineer
to join our team, with a primary focus on
advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, remediation, and AWS platform reliability
.
As a Tier 2 engineer, you'll act as an escalation point for complex incidents, taking ownership of issues from Tier 1 through to resolution while proactively improving platform reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Take ownership of escalated incidents and perform deep-dive AWS infrastructure and application troubleshooting.
Develop automation using
CloudFormation, Lambda and CI/CD pipelines
to reduce manual intervention.
Enhance monitoring and observability using
Splunk, Honeycomb and OpenTelemetry
.
Conduct
Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
, document findings and implement preventative measures.
Collaborate with
DevOps, application and security teams
to maintain compliance and performance.
Mentor Tier 1 engineers on troubleshooting techniques and best practices.
AWS Certification
– SysOps or higher strongly preferred.
Strong
Infrastructure as Code
experience,



particularly CloudFormation.
Proficiency with
GitHub
, with Bitbucket/Bamboo experience a plus.
Hands‐on experience with
Splunk, Honeycomb and OpenTelemetry
.
Ability to troubleshoot under pressure during
major incidents
and lead technical bridges.
Desired Experience:
CloudFormation troubleshooting, including stack failures, drift detection and rollback handling.
Robust knowledge of
IAM policies, S3 bucket policies and AWS security best practices
.
Advanced
CloudWatch
experience, including metrics, alarms, LogGroups and custom dashboards.
AWS microservices including
ECS Fargate, Lambda and API Gateway
.
Scripting/programming experience with
Python, Shell or Node.js
.
Strong networking knowledge covering
OSI, VPCs, routing, NAT gateways and DNS
.
Experience with
CloudFront and WAF
.
Nice to Have:
CloudTrail analysis for security and compliance.
VPC Flow Logs troubleshooting and network packet analysis.
IAM AssumeRole, STS Tokens, Secrets Manager and SSM automation.
AWS performance tuning experience.
