About the Role
n
As the principal engineer in biomedical innovation, you will:
n
Additive Manufacturing & Medical Device Development
n
n
Lead the end-to-end development of innovative implantable medical devices, from concept and design through to additive manufacturing, validation and preclinical evaluation.
n
Provide technical leadership in additive manufacturing, including build preparation, process optimisation, post-processing and quality verification.
n
Support the transition of prototypes into validated and manufacturing-ready products.
n
n
Research & Preclinical Studies
n
n
Lead and coordinate research activities supporting medical device development and clinical translation.




n
Prepare implants, surgical instruments and research materials for preclinical procedures.
n
Collaborate with clinicians, veterinarians, researchers and engineers across multidisciplinary projects.
n
n
Quality & Compliance
n
n
Maintain manufacturing processes, SOPs, quality records and technical documentation.
n
Support compliance with relevant quality systems, regulatory requirements and laboratory procedures.
n
n
Clinical & Research Collaboration
n
n
Work closely with clinical and research teams to translate innovative technologies into clinically relevant solutions.
n
Participate in research, technical and project meetings and contribute to publications, reports and grant-funded projects.
n
Promote and maintain a safe working environment, including risk assessment, PPE, secure work practices and compliance with Lifehouse WHS requirements.

What You'll Bring
n
n
Demonstrated 10+ years of experience in additive manufacturing for biomedical or medical device applications.
n
Demonstrated ability to lead the end-to-end development of innovative biomedical products, from concept generation and technical feasibility through design, prototyping, testing, verification, validation,



and manufacture.
n
Experience leading medical device design and development activities in accordance with ISO *****, including user needs, design inputs, outputs, and traceability.
n
Experience leading cross-functional teams and collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders across multiple organisational levels.
n
Strong understanding of biomaterials and regenerative medicine principles, including scaffold-based approaches, material functionalisation, and surface modification strategies (e.g. calcium phosphate coating) to optimise implant function and tissue healing.
n
Proficiency in 3D CAD software for medical device design and development.
n
Experience with build preparation software (e.g. EOS Build Processor, Materialise Magics or equivalent), polymer additive manufacturing and post-processing.
n
Experience in maintaining manufacturing documentation, quality records and SOPs.
n
