The Why
n
The Principal Engineer, Frontend is the cross-cutting technical authority for frontend engineering across ubank's web, mobile, and static web properties, built from a shared codebase using Angular and Ionic Capacitor. This role leads the frontend chapter and owns architecture, testing strategy, accessibility, performance, component library design, and frontend observability.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Define and maintain the target frontend architecture across Angular, Ionic Capacitor mobile, and static web properties for consistency and scalability.
n
Set frontend engineering standards through RFCs and ADRs covering component patterns, state management, routing, and code splitting.
n
Design and own the component library architecture including reuse strategy, versioning, contribution model, and Storybook documentation.
n
Partner with the design team on boundary coordination between engineering implementation and visual or interaction design specifications.
n
Define the accessibility engineering programme including automated testing, manual audit cadence, and CI quality gates aligned to WCAG 2.1 AA.
n
Establish frontend testing strategy spanning unit, integration, end-to-end, visual regression, and accessibility layers with clear coverage targets.
n
Define frontend performance budgets aligned to Core Web Vitals and implement continuous bundle monitoring across web and mobile.
n
Establish frontend observability practices including error tracking with Sentry, real user monitoring, and UX metrics for actionable insights.
n
Lead the frontend chapter,



fostering knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and cross-squad collaboration on frontend practices.

Your Experience
n
n
12+ years of frontend engineering experience with at least 5 years in a senior or staff capacity providing cross-team technical leadership.
n
Demonstrated hands-on expertise with Angular application architecture and genuine hybrid mobile experience with Ionic Capacitor or an equivalent framework.
n
Proven experience leading a frontend chapter or community of practice with ownership of a component library or design system at organisational scale.
n
Experience in aligning feature squads, design, and platform teams on frontend standards, roadmaps, and measurable quality outcomes.
