Steel specialises in mild steel fabrication and installation works across the Sydney Metro and surrounding areas. Established in ****, the Head Office and Workshop location is situated in the Silverwater industrial area *****).

The role is site based, undertaking structural steel installation on various sites in Sydney and surrounding areas.
n
The role title is Site Leading Hand – Tradesman. Key responsibilities include coordinating and supervising structural steel installation activities while working hands‐on as an active tradesperson. The role involves leading a small team, undertaking boilermaking and welding activities, and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
n
n
- Lead and coordinate daily activities of boilermakers, riggers and trade assistants
n
- Allocate tasks, set work priorities, and provide explicit direction
n
- Monitor work quality, resolving issues promptly
n
- Complete Hands-On Trade Work, e.g. boilermaking tasks, set-out and installation
n
- Conduct daily pre-starts and safety processes, including SWMS and permits
n
- Immediately correct and report unsafe behaviours or conditions
n
- Review drawings and job scopes and communicate requirements to the team
n
- Liaise with Site Supervisor to coordinate workflow and resolve issues
n
- Report progress, delays, material shortages, and quality concerns promptly
n
- Ensure equipment is organised, used, stored, and recorded for efficient operations
n
- Lead by showing initiative and maintaining a strong work ethic
n
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and professional attitude on site with all stakeholders
n
- Takes accountability for safety, work quality, punctuality, and crew performance
n
n
Requirements:
n
n
- Trade Certificate – Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator (required)
n
- General Construction Induction Card/White Card (required)
n
- High Risk Work license (HRWL) (desirable)
n
- Yellow Card (desirable)
n
- High-level competence in structural fabrication, welding processes and mild steel installation
n
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings accurately
n
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
n
n
