Senior SMP Designer – Mining & Mineral Processing

With offices in Australia and Asia, Mincore supports mid-tier and major resource clients through scoping studies, prefeasibility studies, feasibility studies, detailed design and project execution.

Due to continued project growth and a strong pipeline of work, we are seeking an experienced Senior SMP Designer to join our Melbourne engineering team.
n
This role will support the design and development of mineral processing plants and bulk materials handling facilities, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams across studies, detailed design and project execution.
n
The position is primarily based in our West Melbourne office; however, experienced Perth-based candidates will also be considered
n
The Role
n
As an SMP Designer, you will be responsible for developing 2D and 3D plant layouts and models for mining and mineral processing facilities.
n
Typical plant areas include:
n
Crushing and screening circuits
n
Grinding and milling equipment
n
Pumps, slurry handling and process equipment
n
Thickeners and process tanks
n
Conveyors and bulk materials handling systems
n
Chutes, hoppers and transfer stations
n
Equipment and piping arrangements
n
You will work closely with process, mechanical, civil, structural and electrical engineers to deliver high-quality plant designs across study and detailed design phases.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
Develop 2D and 3D plant layouts for mineral processing facilities
n
Produce structural, mechanical and piping (SMP) layouts
n
Prepare general arrangement drawings and detailed design drawings
n




Develop and maintain 3D models of process plants
n
Assist with clash detection and model coordination
n
Coordinate designs with multidisciplinary engineering teams
n
Produce construction documentation and drawing packages
n
Support engineering teams during study and project delivery phases
n
Develop equipment arrangements, access, maintenance and constructability requirements
n
Incorporate vendor data and engineering requirements into plant models
n
About You
n
To be successful in this role you will have:
n
8+ years experience as an SMP Designer within an engineering consultancy/EPCM environment, preferably across mining and mineral processing projects
n
Strong experience producing 2D and 3D plant designs
n
Solid hands‐on MicroStation capability
n
Experience developing plant layouts and equipment arrangements
n
Strong understanding of mineral processing plants and materials handling systems
n
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
n
Experience taking designs from study-level layouts through to detailed design
n
A practical understanding of constructability, equipment access and maintenance requirements
n
Experience designing areas such as crushing circuits, grinding circuits, conveyors, slurry pumping systems and process equipment installations will be highly regarded.
