About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for Instrument Technicians to join the Sterile Processing Centre (SPC) at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.As an Instrument Technician, you will play an important role in ensuring the safe, effective and efficient reprocessing of reusable medical devices (RMDs) in accordance with Sterile Processing Centre policies and relevant State and National Standards.Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will rotate across all areas of the Sterile Processing Centre, including supporting the Endoscopy Suite. Your responsibilities will include:

Decontamination and high-level disinfection of reusable medical devices

Reprocessing of endoscopy equipment

Checking reusable medical devices and assembling instrument trays

Packaging and preparation of sterile barrier systems

Sterilisation and sterile storage

Checking, testing and maintaining equipment and resources

Maintaining accurate documentation in line with operational requirements

Identifying, troubleshooting and reporting equipment or process variances

The Sterile Processing Centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and successful applicants will be required to participate in a roster covering a range of shifts.

Classification: Instrument Technician IN1–IN4 ($57,002.40–$73,502.00 per annum, pro rata for part time).

Casual workers will also receive a casual loading fee of 25%.

About You

We are looking for motivated and reliable Instrument Technicians who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

You will bring:

Completion of, or current enrolment in, a Certificate III or IV in Health – Sterilisation Services

The ability to read,



understand and interpret reprocessing procedures and guidelines

Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet operational requirements

Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with hospital staff, customers and external suppliers

An understanding of relevant policies and procedures within a sterile processing environment

A current National Criminal History Check, or willingness to obtain one

About the Sterile Processing Centre

The Sterile Processing Centre is responsible for the reprocessing of reusable medical devices in accordance with AS/NZS 4187, AS 5369 and other relevant local, State and National guidelines and policies. As part of St Vincent’s Perioperative Services, the Sterile Processing Centre provides a critical service supporting the operation of St Vincent’s operating theatres and Endoscopy Suite. The department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with staff rostered across all shifts.
