Preferred Trades

Brisbane

$100,000 - $120,000 package | Full-time | Flexible working | Brisbane | North Brisbane | SEQ

If you know how to find positive people in trades, construction or blue-collar environments, and you enjoy staying involved after the offer is signed, this could be a great next move.

Preferred Trades is growing, and we are looking for our first dedicated Talent Acquisition & Culture Specialist to take ownership of how we attract, onboard and connect our people.

This is not a traditional HR role.

Your primary focus will be recruitment. Finding the right tradespeople, apprentices, leading hands, supervisors and operational team members, building genuine talent pipelines and helping us become better at attracting good people before we need them.

The other part of the role is about what happens once they join.

You will spend time with our crews, support new starters, check in with apprentices, help coordinate toolbox talks and team activities and make sure our people remain connected as the business grows.

Formal HR, employment relations and compliance support is handled through an external HR partner, allowing you to concentrate on recruitment, onboarding, retention and culture.

The role

Approximately 70% of your time will be focused on recruitment, with the remaining 30% across onboarding, culture and retention.

You will:

- Own recruitment across trades, apprenticeships, supervision, operational and selected office roles

- Proactively source candidates through SEEK, social media, referrals, trade networks, training providers and direct outreach

- Build and maintain talent pipelines rather than relying solely on job advertisements

- Work directly with the owner and operational managers to understand upcoming workforce requirements

- Write job advertisements, screen candidates, conduct phone interviews and coordinate interviews,

references and offers

- Spend time in the field across SEQ meeting crews and staying connected with what is happening in the business

- Coordinate practical onboarding so new starters know what is expected, where they need to be and who they can turn to

- Check in with apprentices and new team members to identify issues before they become bigger problems

- Help develop practical referral, recognition and retention initiatives that work for a trades workforce

- Track recruitment outcomes including source of hire, time to hire, retention and new starter feedback

- Work alongside our external HR partner when formal HR, compliance, contract or performance matters arise

Who will suit this role?

You might currently be an internal recruiter, agency recruiter, recruitment coordinator, labour hire consultant or people and culture professional who has spent time recruiting into trades, construction, field services or other blue-collar environments.

We are less concerned with whether you have held a senior HR title and more interested in whether you can find good people, communicate well and follow things through.

You will probably enjoy this role if you:

- Know how to source trades and operational candidates rather than simply waiting for applications

- Are confident speaking with tradies, apprentices, supervisors, managers and business owners

- Have a strong phone manner and are comfortable approaching candidates directly

- Can spot attitude, reliability and potential as well as qualifications on a resume

- Are organised enough to manage several vacancies at different stages

- Enjoy getting out of the office and meeting people where they work

- Can make a new starter feel welcome without turning onboarding into a corporate exercise

- Are warm and approachable but comfortable having a direct conversation when required

- Like working closely with decision-makers and being trusted to get things done

Why join us?

This is a newly created role, which means you are not inheriting somebody else's recruitment function.

You will have the opportunity to shape it.

Preferred Trades is the flagship business within a growing group that also operates across electrical, plumbing, rubbish removal and salvage, with further growth planned.

You will have:

- $100,000 - $120,000 package, depending on experience

- A full-time role of up to 38 hours per week

- School-hours flexibility available for the right person

- Up to two days working from home once established

- Direct access to the owner and operational managers

- A role that gets you into the field rather than keeping you behind a desk

- External HR support for the compliance and formal HR workload

- Genuine input into how we recruit, onboard and retain our people

- A long-term opportunity to grow with an expanding group of trade businesses

We are looking for someone practical, personable and proactive who wants to take ownership of recruitment and become a trusted part of the business.

Interested?

Apply with your resume and include a short note telling us about a trade, field or blue-collar hire you are particularly proud of.

Applications will be reviewed and shortlisted as they are received.
