Assistant Finance Manager - International Freight Forwarding

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Assistant Finance Manager to join their close-knit team. Reporting to the Financial Controller, this is a hands-on role suited to an experienced finance professional who can take ownership of key accounting functions while working closely with both local and overseas offices.

This is a varied opportunity for someone with strong technical accounting experience within freight forwarding who is ready to take the next step in their career, or an experienced Assistant Finance Manager looking for a hands-on role within a successful international business.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management

- Take ownership of day-to-day accounting operations and support the Financial Controller across the wider finance function.
- Prepare accurate weekly, monthly and management reports.
- Manage month-end accounting processes, including journals, accruals, reconciliations and financial close.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
- Prepare weekly cash flow reports and monitor cash flow movements.
- Ensure accurate revenue and cost allocation within CargoWise.




- Reconcile and process monthly intercompany charges and payments across international offices.
- Analyse financial results and provide insights to support business decision-making.
- Liaise with external accountants regarding annual tax compliance and other financial requirements.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

- Support month-end and year-end financial close activities.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure appropriate internal controls are maintained.
- Assist with the preparation and review of financial statements and management reporting.
- Identify discrepancies and investigate variances across the business.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting and company requirements.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess:

- Previous experience in a similar role within the International Freight Forwarding industry.
- Solid technical accounting knowledge, including General Ledger, P&L;, balance sheets, reconciliations and month-end reporting.
- Proven experience preparing management reports and analysing financial results.
- Experience managing international payments, intercompany transactions and foreign exchange.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting.




- Experience using CargoWise One is highly regarded.
- Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work with both finance and operational teams.
- A proactive approach with the ability to identify issues, provide solutions and improve processes.
- Full Australian working rights.
