About the Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer for a marine engineering company based in Dandenong VIC. This is a permanent, full-time role, 5 days a week fully in the office from Monday to Friday.
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading the development of mechanical components and systems for advanced Launch & Recovery Systems used in offshore and subsea applications. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will drive detailed mechanical design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, and procurement activities, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams. The position combines hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-performance, reliable solutions from concept through to manufacture and deployment.
Responsibilities:
- Completing detailed product design and analysis of mechanical components
- Conducting hand calculations and as appropriate Finite Element Analysis
- Technical report writing to support your design works
- Leading mechanical product testing and manufacture
- Managing manufacture of mechanical components
- Designing / specifying and supporting the procurement/manufacture of mechanical components
- Liaising and working closely with other mechanical engineers, naval architects, electrical, fluid power and controls engineers
- Assist in maintaining company compliancy documents to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001.
- Assist with making the company more effective by streamlining/automating the above where possible.
Skills/Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with the capability to develop practical engineering solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines, and achieve performance targets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience within the maritime, offshore, or subsea industry.
- Experience in lifting systems and launch and recovery systems (LARS).
- Strong experience in the design, analysis, manufacture, and testing of mechanical components for Launch & Recovery Systems (preferred).
- Knowledge of Classification Society rules and standards.
- Experience designing Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) for marine hydraulic systems.
- Experience with Active Heave Compensation (AHC) Launch & Recovery Systems.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Experience conducting hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
