Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - adaptable options available.

Duties

- Assist the Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner in the fulfilment of their responsibilities under the Ombudsman Act 1978, Right to Information Act 2009, Health Complaints Act 1995, Energy Ombudsman Act 1998 and other legislation as required.
- Assess enquiries, applications and complaints to determine jurisdiction, issues, risks and the appropriate course of action.
- Resolve matters, where appropriate, through communication, negotiation and early resolution.
- Assist with investigations, conciliations and external reviews by gathering evidence, analysing material, complying with procedural fairness and legal requirements.
- Prepare clear correspondence, reports,



advice and draft decisions in accordance with legislation and office procedures.
- Advise complainants, applicants, public authorities, service providers, energy entities and other stakeholders about matters within the Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner’s jurisdiction and processes.
- Identify systemic issues and formulate suggested strategies for public authorities, service providers and energy entities to improve their procedures and practices.
- Plan and manage a varied caseload, maintain accurate records and appropriately handle sensitive or confidential information.
- Other relevant tasks and duties as required.

Pre-employment Checks

The Head of State Service has determined that the person nominated for this vacancy is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer.

The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Pre-employment (National Police Record) checks for: Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex-related offences, drug and alcohol related offences, crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations, malicious damage and destruction to property, serious traffic offences,



crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.
2. Disciplinary action in previous employment.
3. Identification check.

Desirable Requirements

- A Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.
- Current Drivers Licence
- Relevant tertiary qualifications.
