You must
- Hold an unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
- Have full rights to work in Australia.
- Be willing to travel regularly across regional NSW, including overnight stays.
- Have, or be willing to obtain, a Working With Children Check and National Police Check.
The roleMulticultural Disability Advocacy Australia (MDAA) is looking for a Statewide Disability Advocate who can think critically, solve problems and advocate effectively.
You will work directly with people with disability on matters involving the NDIS, housing, Centrelink, education, discrimination, complaints and government decisions.
You will
- Analyse complex problems, decisions, evidence, legislation and policy.
- Help people understand their rights and options so they can make informed decisions.
- Build people's knowledge, confidence and capacity to advocate for themselves.
- Develop advocacy strategies and put forward clear, persuasive arguments.
- Prepare written submissions, complaints,
applications and correspondence.
- Advocate and negotiate with government agencies and other organisations.
- Assist with reviews, appeals and tribunal matters.
- Undertake advocacy and community engagement across regional NSW.
Who we're looking forWe want someone who can analyse a complex situation, identify the key issues, develop an argument and work out how to move the matter forward. A background in law, legal studies, policy, social sciences, government or advocacy is highly regarded.
You will need robust critical thinking, problem-solving, written communication, judgement and advocacy skills.
