The Role The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.

The APS 6 Work Health Safety and Environment (WHSE) Specialist works within the Chief Operating Officer Division to perform complex work health safety and setting specialist work within an integrated workforce. They work within a team and are to apply their specialist knowledge and understanding of WHSE, legislation, regulations and codes of practice to support activities within the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA).

The APS 6 Work Health Safety Specialist will:

- Contribute to the development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of ASA safety management system, governance, policies and procedures..
- Provide specialist advice and support across safe systems or work, governance, assurance, risk, incident management and organisational learning activities.
- Collect, analyse, interpret and report on data to support decision making and continuous improvement..
- Support assurance activities, audits, risk assessments, investigations, corrective actions and governance reporting.
- Work collaboratively across the broader internal and external WHSE community and with other work health and safety specialists to provide good outcomes.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex WHSE matters, anticipating and responding to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and ASA outcomes.
- Evaluate activities and processes for compliance with WHS and Environmental legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the ASA.



Coordinate and manage the development, implementation, monitoring and performance reporting of WHSE statistics.

- Ability to interpret and apply WHS and Environmental legislation, regulatory s requirements and safety management system principles within a complex operating environment.
- Assist with the development and implementation of safety management plans.
- Knowledge of and experience in continuous improvement as it relates to WHSE.
- Ability to carry out WHS and Environmental audits, support WHSE Workplace Inspections and support WHSE education.
- Ability to undertake job safety analysis to develop safe working procedures.
- Assist with the development of a WHS Risk Management Register.
- Highly developed inter-personal skills.
- Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
- The ability to think critically with well-developed problem solving skills.
