Resilient Services
Melbourne
This is an entry-level consulting position designed for someone looking to build their capability in risk, resilience and emergency management.
About Resilient Services
Resilient Services is a boutique organisational resilience consultancy established in 2018. We work with organisations across Australia, including major corporations, government agencies and critical infrastructure organisations, helping them prepare for, respond to and recover from disruption.
Our work spans emergency management, crisis management, business continuity, organisational resilience, risk, training and exercising.
We are a small team, which means our people have the prospect to work across a broad range of projects, industries and clients and to learn directly from experienced consultants.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an Associate Consultant who is curious, capable and keen to build a career in risk, resilience and emergency management.
You might be a recent graduate, early in your career, or coming to us with experience from another field and looking for something different. Previous experience in emergency management or resilience would be welcome, but it isn't essential.
You do not need to arrive knowing how to be a consultant. We will teach you our approach, involve you in real projects and support you to progressively develop your technical, consulting and client-facing skills.
What we do need is someone who can think for themselves, write well, take initiative and be willing to learn.
We're looking for someone who sees something they don't know and thinks “I'll work that out” rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
What We're Looking For
You may be a recent graduate, a parent returning to work, changing careers or looking for your first opportunity in consulting.
We are less interested in a particular degree than we are in how you think, communicate and approach your work.
You will ideally bring
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to explain information clearly and logically.
- Curiosity and an interest in understanding how organisations work and what happens when things go wrong.
- The ability to research an unfamiliar topic, make sense of information and identify what matters.
- Initiative – if you don't know something, we want you to be comfortable asking questions, investigating and having a go.
- Good organisation and attention to detail.
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
- A willingness to receive feedback and use it to improve your work.
- A professional and personable approach when working with clients and colleagues.
- The ability to work independently and manage your own time.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone with potential. We don't expect you to know everything when you start.
Working With Us
Resilient Services has operated as a virtual workplace since its inception.
This provides considerable flexibility. Outside of meetings, client commitments and agreed deadlines, there is flexibility in how you structure your working day.
That flexibility also comes with independence. There will be days when you spend much of your time working by yourself from your home office, researching,
writing or progressing project work. You therefore need to be comfortable working alone, managing your time and maintaining momentum without someone sitting beside you.
Being virtual doesn't mean being unsupported. You will work closely with experienced consultants, receive regular feedback and have people available when you need guidance. We want you to learn, ask questions and progressively become more independent as your experience grows.
Our work also occasionally requires travel to client sites, including interstate travel.
What You'll Get
This is an opportunity to learn consulting by doing it.
You will gain exposure to different organisations and industries and develop practical skills across areas such as emergency management, crisis management, business continuity, risk, exercising, facilitation and professional report writing.
As a small consultancy, we can offer exposure and responsibility that can be difficult to get in a traditional graduate role. If you demonstrate that you're ready for more, we won't make you wait for a particular number of years before giving it to you.
Applying
Please send us
- Your CV;
- A short introduction telling us why this type of work interests you; and
- An example of your writing.
Your writing sample does not need to relate to emergency management or resilience. It could be an extract from university work, a report, briefing, article, professional document or another piece of writing that you believe represents your ability. We're interested in how you structure information, communicate ideas and make yourself understood, not whether you already know our industry.
If the work sounds interesting but you don't meet every point above, we'd still encourage you to apply.
