About the role
Maroochy Private Hospital has an exciting leadership opportunity within our Anaesthetic and PACU services.
The Clinical Nurse
Manager – Anaesthetics/PACU provides operational, clinical, and professional leadership across the Anaesthetic and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit. This role ensures secure, high-quality perioperative care, effective workforce management, compliance with legislative and accreditation requirements, and continuous improvement in patient outcomes. The position is accountable for clinical governance, staff capability, patient flow, anaesthetic safety, and alignment with ANZCA guidelines, NSQHS standards, and hospital policy frameworks.
Key responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) ensuring secure staffing levels and efficient patient flow
- Coordinate Stage 1 and 2 PACU activity, including discharge criteria, protocols and escalation pathways
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures for the surgical department
- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the Code Blue team, including management of personnel, protocols, readiness, and response effectiveness
- Oversee rostering, workforce planning and allocation of Anaesthetic Nurses/Technicians and PACU resources
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained for operational needs and regulatory compliance
- Manage overtime, time in lieu, leave balances, and agency usage to operational needs
- Ensure staff appraisals are completed annually and support recruitment, onboarding and retention of high-performing staff
- Provide expert clinical leadership in Anaesthetics and PACU, ensuring evidence-based practice and adherence to ANZCA guidelines and hospital policies
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the Anaesthetic and PACU staff
About you
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse, Division 1
- Minimum of 5 years of perioperative nursing experience including Anaesthetic and PACU specialties
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a perioperative/acute care setting
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and certifications in healthcare management or leadership
- High-level clinical judgement and decision making
- Advanced knowledge of Anaesthetic nursing, airway management, and PACU recovery standards
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Proficiency in electronic health records and medical software
- Ability to manage complex patient flow and operational demands
- Excellent organisational and documentation skills
