Role Description The Clinical Trial Coordinator is a part time, on-site role based in Gawler, or Victor Harbor in SA, responsible for coordinating the operational aspects of clinical trials within BHFLHN. The role includes organising and managing study start-up activities, maintaining trial documentation, and ensuring adherence to study protocols, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements. The coordinator will support investigators with patient recruitment, informed consent processes, data collection, and follow-up, while monitoring trial progress and timelines.
Day-to-day tasks involve liaising with internal clinical teams and external stakeholders, scheduling study visits, preparing reports, and contributing to quality assurance activities. The position also requires continuous collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to promote best practice, patient safety, and efficient trial delivery.
ESSENTIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Educational/Vocational Qualifications
> Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.

Experience
> Proven experience in working with computerised information systems, preferably within a clinical or medical environment.
> Demonstrated competence in arranging patient visits, and undertaking clinical trial related procedures (ECG, vitals, venepuncture, cannulation, IV and Sub-cutaneous drug administration), and maintaining quality management processes according to ICH/GCP and workplace standards.
Knowledge
> Knowledge and understanding of the role of the Registered General Nurse within a healthcare setting
> Knowledge of contemporary issues relevant to rural and remote health
> Knowledge of contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
> Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, industrial agreements, standards, codes, ethics and competency standards
> Knowledge of Quality Improvement Systems as applied to a healthcare setting
> Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and procedures.
> Understanding of the Australian National Safety & Quality Health Service Standards.
> Proven knowledge of clinical research procedures, and guidelines for compliance with safety, risk management and equal opportunity, particularly within a specific field that is relevant to the assigned operational area.
> Proven knowledge of medical terminology, records practice and procedures, confidentiality standards and good clinical research practice.
> Well-developed knowledge of computer-based information systems and their application within the clinical research and health fields.

Experience
> Demonstrated experience in working within a regional, rural and or remote workplace
> Demonstrated competence in undertaking clinical trials,
including coordinating projects from the recruitment to close out stage, drafting source documents, meeting deadlines and maintaining quality management processes according to ICH/GCP and workplace standards.
> Experience in intermediate to advanced computing skills, including email and word processing
> Experience working as a clinical research coordinator, including coordinating projects, patients and research activities, and contributing to the delivery of research, policy, reporting and quality management processes.
> Experience in the coordination of commercially sponsored phase I - III clinical trials.
> Experience in data entry management.
Knowledge
> Knowledge of the Clinical Research Nurse Australian Standards for Practice
> Knowledge and understanding of Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP) guidelines and the Declaration of Helsinki.
> Knowledge of state, national and international clinical research and health structures, systems, policies and procedures, and the inter-relationship of various hospital divisions and departments
> Well-developed knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research design methods and practices, and its application and utilisation within a clinical research environment, and knowledge of diseases and their treatment, and of scientific and medical terminology, particularly within a specific field that is relevant to the assigned operational area.
Qualifications
- Strong Communication skills, including clear written documentation, effective interpersonal communication, and the ability to liaise with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Demonstrated understanding of Clinical Trials and Protocol requirements, including ethical conduct, regulatory compliance, informed consent processes, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.
- Research skills, including data collection, data management, critical appraisal of information, and accurate reporting of trial outcomes.
- Project Management capabilities to coordinate multiple studies, manage timelines and resources, and support efficient trial operations.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in health sciences, nursing, biomedical science, or a related discipline, or equivalent clinical research experience.
- Experience in a hospital or clinical research setting, with familiarity in working within local health networks or public health systems.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety and quality improvement.
- Proficiency in clinical trial management systems and standard office software, and the ability to learn new digital tools as required.
