We're looking for an experienced Collections Specialist based in Sydney/Melbourne to manage a portfolio of commercial lending and trade finance accounts across the debt lifecycle, from early follow-up through to structured recovery on more complex, later-stage cases. This is a commercial/SME-focused collections role, not high-volume consumer collections: you'll be managing a smaller number of higher-value, more bespoke accounts that require judgment and relationship management as much as process discipline.
How you will make an impact:
- Manage a portfolio of commercial lending and trade finance accounts across all stages of arrears, from early-stage follow-up through late-stage recovery.
- Proactively contact customers to resolve overdue balances,
negotiating realistic repayment plans and structured resolutions.
- Assess each account's circumstances and apply judgment on the right recovery approach, escalation path, or hardship accommodation.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date account records and collection notes in the loan management system.
- Identify early risk signals across the portfolio and flag complex, high-risk, or dispute cases to the Business Lead.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders on accounts requiring escalation, restructuring, or legal recovery.
- Ensure all collections activity is conducted in line with responsible lending practices and applicable regulatory obligations.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of collections workflows, templates, and communication approaches as the function scales.
What makes you a great fit:
- 3–5 years' experience in collections, credit, or recoveries within a lending, fintech, or broader financial services setting.
- Experience with commercial/SME accounts preferred.
- Working knowledge of Australian responsible lending and debt collection obligations.
- Confident, empathetic negotiator and comfortable holding difficult conversations while maintaining a solutions-focused, professional tone.
