About the role:

The Communications Officer will support a broad range of communications with SSCT staff, patrons, hirers, sports organisations and government.

This is a newly created role that the successful candidate can make their own and bring their specific skillset and passion areas to support SSCT’s communications functions.

You’ll get exposure to a variety of communications functions in this generalist role, and will receive guidance and direction within a specialised communications department.

Reporting to the Communications Business Partner, you’ll work with teams across the business to gather information on its activities and events. You’ll use these insights to promote SSCT’s value to the Victorian sporting community, uphold its reputation and effectively report to government.

You’ll use your writing and multimedia skills to develop copy and media assets that are professional and compelling, ensuring our stakeholders are informed and engaged with sport and what’s happening at our venues.

As the Communications Officer your primary responsibilities will include:

- Produce and publish a wide variety of formal and informal communications including bulletins, newsletters and social media content across various channels, including web, intranet, emails, social media and digital noticeboards.
- Deliver consistent content strategies for social media channels and the SSCT website. Monitor content performance, test new formats, and refine strategies as required.
- Apply consistent organisational brand, style and tone, and support the development and maintenance of style guides.
- Edit and proofread written materials prepared by others, ensuring grammatical accuracy, consistent tone and the needs of the audience are met.
- Support the development and maintenance of systems that enable effective and efficient communication within SSCT, including the organisation’s intranet.
- Support members of the executive and senior leadership teams to prepare correspondence, presentations and other written communications as required.
- Under the supervision and direction of the Communications Business Partner, support the organisation’s response to media organisations including filming requests.




- Perform additional and ad-hoc operational and administrative duties aligned with the requirements of the position, continuous improvement and as requested.

Required skills and qualifications:

- Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Tertiary qualifications, or working towards tertiary qualifications, in communications, media or journalism (or similar).
- Demonstrated writing, editing and proofing skills & an appropriate attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience in writing and publishing online content including the management of social media channels.
- Working knowledge and understanding of, and the ability to apply Victorian Government standards and procedures for accessibility, discoverability (search) and usability, or the demonstrated ability to quickly acquire the same.
- Experience in the use of visual and graphic design to support effective communication strategies.
- Sound stakeholder management skills including the ability to collaborate, negotiate and build trust with others.

The State Sport Centres Trust (SSCT) operates and maintains more than $1 billion assets, including four of Australia’s largest multi-sport venues: the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), the State Netball and Hockey Centre (SNHC), Lakeside Stadium incorporating the State Athletics Centre, and Knox Regional Sports Park including the State Basketball Centre (SBC).
