The Role The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.
The EL 1 Work Health Safety Specialist works within Chief Operating Officer Division to perform complex work health and safety work within an integrated environment. They require an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and policy requirements in the context of the ASA’s mission.
The EL 1 Work Health Safety Specialist will:
- Lead and contribute to the governance, implementation and continuous improvement and assurance of the Agency’s safety management system.
- Provide oversight of incident management, investigations and corrective action to support effective organisational learning and learning events. Analyse safety performance, trends, and risk information to provide safety intelligence, performance reporting and data-driven advice to inform decision-making.
- Assess, evaluate and provide advice on safety strategies, policies, frameworks and initiatives to ensure compliance and support best practice outcomes. Work across the broader ASA safety network to develop safe systems of work and accompanying performance measures that are supported by policy, and establish safety assurance mechanisms.
- Apply human performance principles to identify systemic contributors to risk and strengthen outcomes.
- Build leadership capability and foster a positive safety culture through collaborative engagement, coaching and expert advice.
- Engage in complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects to support achievement of ASA outcomes.
