About the role

Hayes Services is seeking a skilled and experienced Excavator Operator to join our energetic team in Adelaide. This is a full time position based in Adelaide, SA 5000. As an Excavator Operator, you will play a crucial role in our construction operations, utilising heavy machinery to excavate, move, and position materials on site. This position is essential to the successful delivery of our construction projects and requires a professional who is committed to safety, precision, and productivity.

Key responsibilities

- Operate excavators safely and efficiently on construction sites, following all relevant safety protocols and regulations
- Perform precise digging, trenching, and material handling tasks in accordance with project specifications and site plans
- Conduct pre-operation inspections of excavator equipment to ensure mechanical integrity and safe working condition
- Maintain clear communication with site supervisors, spotters, and other team members to coordinate activities and ensure site safety
- Respond promptly to instructions and adjust work methods as required by site managers and engineers
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, hours operated, and any equipment issues or incidents
- Keep the excavator and surrounding work area clean and organised, reporting any maintenance requirements immediately
- Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety regulations applicable to construction sites

What we're looking for

- Current and valid Heavy Equipment Operator licence or equivalent certification for excavator operation
- Proven experience operating excavators in construction environments, ideally demonstrating 3+ years of hands-on experience
- Strong understanding of construction site safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards




- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Physical fitness and ability to work in varying weather conditions and on challenging terrain
- Reliability and punctuality, with a strong work ethic and professional attitude
- Basic mechanical knowledge to identify and report equipment maintenance needs
- Ability to read and interpret site plans and instructions
- Current First Aid certification is highly desirable
