Family Liaison Officer

- $113,198.00 per annum + superannuation
- Full Time, Fixed term until 30 April 2027
- Collins St, Melbourne or Geelong based (Hybrid working model)

Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Liaison Officer with extensive case management experience to join our team for this fixed term position until April 2027. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in client risk assessment and be adept at providing information, assistance, and referrals in complex cases. Experience working with individuals who have experienced grief, trauma, and loss is essential.

As a Family Liaison Officer, you will be the primary point of contact for families and injured workers following a work-related incident or fatality, providing guidance and support during the initial aftermath and throughout the criminal justice process. You will offer trauma-informed, specialist social work services to victims of crime, ensuring they are kept informed and supported after a work-related death. In addition, you will collaborate with investigators, prosecutors, and the business to provide advice, develop policies, and create programs aimed at supporting victims.

This role operates state-wide and requires a valid driver’s license, as well as occasional overnight travel to regional areas to attend court and offer continued support to clients.

Key accountabilities include:

- Provide immediate specialist and trauma-informed support to victims of crime families following work-related serious injury or death; assess and make recommendations for any allied health support or welfare services
- Support victims of crime to understand and meaningfully participate in the criminal justice system by providing information about court processes, supporting communication with legal and investigation teams, and providing court support
- Undertakes advanced case management requiring collaboration across multiple business units including Investigations, Enforcement Legal, Claims Practices, Field Operations and contracted service providers
- Provides expert technical advice to investigators,



prosecutors and other stakeholders in dealing with victims and witnesses
- Applies research and advanced technical knowledge to support the development and evaluation of policy and programs related to support for victims of crime
- Maintain relationships with families of victims of crime and undertake rolling assessments of their psychological and welfare needs.
- Develop tailored support plans for victims of crime, drawing on technical expertise, holistic social work assessments and their own judgement to ensure that victims have access to the support they need
- Works independently with limited direction while applying expert knowledge to support Victims of Crime through the court process

About you

You hold extensive case management experience which includes client risk assessment and providing information, assistance and referral to clients in complex cases. You will also possess:

- Demonstrated experience working with people who have experienced grief, trauma and loss.
- Experience in the identification, investigation and resolution of complex stakeholder issues.
- Experience providing complex information to, and interpreting legislation for, stakeholders in an appropriate and accessible way.
- Sound knowledge of the criminal justice system including an understanding of legislation and government policy affecting victims of crime, with prior experience working in this type of complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality services, critically reflective practice and continuous learning.
- Sound judgement and decision making ability and ability to practice with limited oversight.

Qualifications





- A tertiary qualification in social work, psychology or a related allied health discipline is required equivalent to Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level 7 or above.
- Experience providing complex case management or therapeutic services.
