SANY is one of the world's leading manufacturers of construction and heavy equipment, including excavators, cranes, concrete machinery, and road trucks. As part of our continued growth across Australia, we are seeking an experienced and commercially driven General Manager – Road Truck Division to lead the development and growth of our road truck business.
This senior leadership role will be responsible for developing and executing the division's business strategy, driving sales and market growth, building strong relationships with customers and dealers, and overseeing the overall commercial performance of the road truck division. The General Manager will identify new market opportunities, strengthen SANY’s presence in the Australian road transport and heavy vehicle market, and develop effective sales and distribution strategies.
The ideal candidate will have proven senior leadership and commercial experience within the road truck, heavy vehicle, commercial vehicle, or transport equipment industry, with a strong understanding of the Australian market. You will be a strategic and hands-on leader with a robust track record in business development, sales growth, customer relationship management, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales Strategy & Business Performance
- Develop and execute annual sales and business development strategies for the Australian markets.
- Take full accountability for heavy truck sales volume, revenue growth, profitability, and market share.
- Identify market opportunities and develop strategic plans to achieve business objectives.
- Monitor market trends, customer demands, and competitor activities, and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs)
to ensure sales targets are achieved.
2. Dealer Network Development & Management
- Identify, evaluate, appoint, and develop high-quality dealers and distributors across key regions in Australia.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with dealer partners to drive sustainable business growth.
- Provide regular product training, commercial guidance, and operational support to enhance dealer capabilities and brand loyalty.
- Coordinate internal resources to support dealers in developing key end-user customers, including logistics operators, transport companies, and commercial fleet customers.
- Ensure dealer compliance with company standards, policies, and brand requirements.
3. Key Account & Customer Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain relationships with strategic customers and major fleet operators.
- Lead negotiations for key commercial agreements and large-scale sales opportunities.
- Identify customer requirements and collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver tailored solutions.
- Represent the company in customer meetings, industry events, and business development activities.
4. Leadership & Team Development
- Establish, lead, and manage the local sales and business development team.
- Oversee daily operations, performance management, and workforce planning.
- Coach, mentor,
and develop team members to build a high-performing and customer-focused culture.
- Foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
5. Operational & Strategic Management
- Work closely with regional and global stakeholders to align local business strategies with corporate objectives.
- Prepare regular business reports, sales forecasts, and market analysis for senior management.
- Ensure all business activities comply with local laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in sales, business development, or commercial management within the heavy truck, commercial vehicle, mining, construction equipment, or industrial sectors.
- Proven experience leading sales teams and managing dealer/distributor networks.
- Demonstrated success in developing strategic customer relationships and achieving commercial targets.
- Strong understanding of the Australian market and industry landscape.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking ability.
- Full working rights in Australia.
Preferred
- Experience within heavy truck, mining equipment, construction machinery, or industrial equipment manufacturers.
- Experience working with multinational organisations.
- Familiarity with Australian transport, logistics, and fleet industries.
- Existing industry network and customer relationships.
