To design, develop, and maintain high-quality embedded firmware to support robust, scalable, and reliable products. Contribute to the full product lifecycle from concept through production, ensuring firmware aligns with hardware design and system requirements.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS / KPA’s (Responsibilities, Accountabilities & Duties)
- Design, develop, and deliver high-quality embedded firmware within agreed timelines
- Drive firmware projects from concept through to production and post-release support
- Develop and maintain reusable, scalable, and maintainable codebases
- Collaborate closely with hardware, production, and testing teams to ensure system integration
- Debug, optimize, and improve firmware performance and reliability
- Contribute to architecture decisions and technical direction of firmware systems
- Support manufacturing and field teams with firmware-related issues and improvements
- Participate in code reviews and enforce best practices and coding standards
- Maintain and contribute to internal documentation (wiki, processes, technical notes)
- Provide input into hardware design from a firmware perspective
- Attend and actively contribute to firmware and hardware team meetings
COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Hard Skills & Soft Skills/Behaviors)
Knowledge:
- Embedded systems and microcontroller architectures
- Real-time systems and firmware design principles
- Communication protocols (e.g. UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, etc.)
- Electronics fundamentals and schematic interpretation
- Software development lifecycle and best practices
- Version control systems (e.g. Git)
Hard Skills:
- Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
- Debugging on hardware (e.g. JTAG,
oscilloscopes, logic analysers)
- Firmware architecture and modular design
- Basic understanding of hardware bring-up and board-level debugging
- Familiarity with scripting or higher-level languages (e.g. C#, Python) is advantageous
- Exposure to RTOS concepts is beneficial
- Project Management/planning & scheduling

Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent

- Project management
- Exposure to full product lifecycle development
- Embedded systems and firmware architecture growth
- Toolchain and language proficiency development
- Cross-functional collaboration (hardware, production, systems)
- Upskill on specific tool/language proficiencies
EXPERIENCE
- 0–2 years of embedded firmware development experience
- Exposure to embedded systems projects (academic or industry)
- Experience with electronics or hardware interaction is advantageous
