About the role
Let's get the awkward bit out of the way first: this job starts early. Like, "the sun hasn't fully committed yet" early. If the idea of coaching a 5:30am class while most of Sydney is still face-down in a pillow sounds less like a punishment and more like your natural habitat — keep reading.
- Casual Group Fitness Coach role, with room to grow.
- Early morning shifts, including Saturdays — this is the non-negotiable bit, not the fine print.
- Coaching is the headline, but you'll also be part of the reason members stick around, not just show up once.
- For the right person, this doesn't have to stay a casual gig forever — we're open to it growing into Head Coach territory: programming input, mentoring newer trainers, running challenge prep, a real say in studio culture. We're not precious about job titles, just about finding someone who wants to build something.
Key responsibilities
- Run big groups through their paces while still catching the small stuff — clear cueing, sharp technique correction, knowing when someone needs a regression versus a "no, seriously, you've got this."
- Teach members why we bang on about heart rate training — it's not just a number on a screen, it's the whole game, and it's a big part of why people stick around.
- Greet every member properly and help build the kind of studio community people don't want to skip on a cold morning.
- Run the odd studio tour, follow up trial members, and generally be a walking advertisement for why BFT is worth the early alarm.
- Set up, pack down, and help keep the studio clean and tidy.
- Pitch in on studio challenges a few times a year.
About you
- Group training experience already under your belt — this isn't your first turf session, and you don't need a walkthrough of how a class actually runs.
- Certificate III in Fitness minimum,
Certificate IV preferred — a Diploma or fitness degree will make our eyebrows go up in a positive way.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates, no exceptions.
- Can hold a full room's attention without sounding like a hostage negotiator or a kids' party entertainer.
- A bit of sales instinct — comfortable talking a prospective member through their options without either of you needing a shower afterwards.
- Genuinely a morning person, or at least an extremely convincing actor before 6am.
- Bonus points for social media savvy — if you know your way around Instagram, we'll happily hand you the account occasionally.
- Full working rights in Australia.
About us
- BFT Waterloo is part of the BFT network — 300+ studios worldwide setting the benchmark for group training methodology.
- We combine tech, science-backed programming and progressive training blocks, so members get real results instead of just a sweaty selfie and a vague sense of achievement.
- We take training seriously and ourselves not at all — the kind of studio culture where nobody's above cleaning a kettlebell.
- Don't just take our word for it — check us out on Instagram @bft_waterloo.
Benefits
- Pay that sits above the Fitness Industry Award, because getting up this early deserves compensation.
- A free BFT membership, plus discounts for mates and family.
- A genuine runway toward Head Coach if that's the direction you want to go — not a throwaway line.
- Professional development, including BFT onboarding and CEC-approved Level-Up courses.
- A team that celebrates wins, laughs a lot, and treats "casual" as a job type, not an attitude.
If you can coach, you can commit to the early shift, and you like the sound of this — send us your CV. Applications are reviewed as they land, so don't sit on this one. We can't wait to meet you (early, and probably before coffee).
