About the role
Nerang Community Bowls Club is seeking an experienced Head Chef to lead our kitchen operations and deliver exceptional culinary experiences to our members and guests. This is a full-time position based at our venue in Nerang, QLD 4211.
As Head
Chef, you will be responsible for menu development, kitchen management, staff supervision, and maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety and presentation. This role is strategically important to the club's reputation and member satisfaction, making you integral to our hospitality offering.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, develop and execute innovative menus that appeal to our diverse membership base whilst maintaining cost control and profitability
- Oversee all kitchen operations, ensuring efficient workflow, proper food handling procedures and strict adherence to health and safety standards
- Lead, train, mentor and supervise kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and positive team environment
- Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering, stock rotation and waste management
- Maintain food quality standards and presentation across all dishes served at the club
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, hygiene standards and club policies
- Collaborate with management to understand member preferences and gather feedback to continuously improve offerings
- Control food costs and implement strategies to maximise profitability without compromising quality
- Prepare meals for special events, functions and catering occasions as required
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment and ensure all staff follow proper sanitation protocols
What we're looking for
- Formal culinary qualification or apprenticeship in cooking (or equivalent professional experience)
- Minimum 2 years' experience working as a Head Chef or Senior Chef in a hospitality or food service environment
- Proven expertise in menu planning, food costing and kitchen management
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop kitchen staff
- In-depth knowledge of food safety, health and hygiene regulations and best practices
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Creative flair and passion for food presentation and culinary innovation
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with management and front-of-house staff
- Current food handler's certificate and willingness to maintain professional certifications
- Experience working in club or community hospitality environments is highly valued
