We are seeking an experienced Head of Physical Security, Data Centres to establish and lead the physical security strategy, governance framework and operating model across our growing portfolio. Reporting to the General Manager, IT, Cyber and Security – Data Centres, this role will work closely with senior leaders across Critical Environments, Operations, Design, Construction, Digital Integration, Property and Enterprise Security.
This is a unique opportunity to build and mature a security function from the ground up while influencing the design, construction and operation of some of Australia's most critical digital infrastructure.
The Opportunity
As Head of Physical Security, you will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for physical security across the data centre lifecycle, from site selection and design through to construction, commissioning, operations and customer assurance. You will lead the development of security standards, governance frameworks and assurance programs while ensuring physical security controls align with cyber, information security and operational technology requirements.
You will also act as the senior security representative for customers, regulators, industry bodies and government agencies, helping ensure our facilities meet the highest standards of resilience, compliance and trust.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Security Across the Data Centre Lifecycle
- Establish and execute the physical security strategy, standards and roadmap for the data centre portfolio.
- Embed security-by-design principles into new data centre developments and major capital projects.
- Provide leadership throughout design, construction, commissioning and operational readiness phases.
- Ensure physical security requirements are considered alongside uptime, resiliency, customer commitments and operational outcomes.
Protect Critical Infrastructure
- Lead the design and assurance of layered security controls including:
- Access control systems
- CCTV and video management platforms
- Perimeter intrusion detection
- Vehicle and pedestrian access management
- Visitor management systems
- Security Operations Centres
- Guard force operations
- Develop and maintain site security plans, response procedures and escalation frameworks.
- Lead threat, vulnerability and risk assessments across existing and future sites.
Customer Security & Assurance
- Act as the senior physical security contact for hyperscale, cloud and enterprise customers.
- Support customer audits, security questionnaires, inspections and due diligence activities.
- Ensure facilities meet customer assurance requirements and security obligations.
- Partner with customers to understand emerging security expectations and incorporate them into future planning.
Governance, Compliance & Risk Management
- Own physical security policies, standards and assurance programmes across the portfolio.
- Lead audit preparation, evidence management, compliance reviews and remediation activities.
- Maintain alignment with industry and government security frameworks including:
- Hosting Certification Framework (HCF)
- Defence Industry Security Program (DISP)
- PSPF
- ISO 27001
- SOC and customer assurance requirements
- Contribute to broader cyber and information security governance where physical security controls support overall security outcomes.
Build and Lead a High-Performing Function
- Establish and mature the physical security operating model for the data centre business.
- Lead strategic relationships with guarding providers, security integrators, consultants and specialist advisers.
- Develop future organisational capability,
succession plans and leadership frameworks.
- Provide executive-level reporting and risk insights to senior leadership.
About You
- 10+ years' experience in physical security, protective security, critical infrastructure or mission-critical environments.
- Direct experience supporting hyperscale, colocation or large-scale data centre operations is essential
- Demonstrated success developing and implementing physical security strategies, governance frameworks and assurance programmes.
- Strong knowledge of data centre security technologies, including electronic access control, CCTV, perimeter detection and security operations centres
- .Experience managing customer audits, security reviews and compliance obligations
- Knowledge of PSPF, DISP, HCF, ISO 27001 and other security and assurance frameworks.
- Experience operating within converged physical, cyber and operational technology environments.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and executive communication skills.
