Introduction

Ambrose® is a not-for-profit social enterprise providing Early Years Learning and School Age Care services. With a team of 550 employees and growing, we currently operate over 50 school age care and early years education services across Catholic schools in the Greater Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains region.

Description

Role Summary The HR Business Partner (HRBP) plays a strategic and hands-on role in supporting leaders and employees across the full employee life cycle. This role partners with operational leaders to deliver HR solutions that enhance employee experience, ensure compliance, and support the organisation’s mission to provide high-quality education and care to children.

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) plays five key roles:

1. Trusted Advisor – Develops professional relationships built on trust to guide, coach, build capability, manage risk and influence through HR functional expertise. To support organisational business performance and HR best practice.

2. Business Partner – Adds value by developing a genuine understanding of the client group’s challenges and goals. Works directly with the group’s leaders to contribute to business strategy and operational planning through leveraging, embedding, and influencing Community Ventures HR strategy and initiatives.

3. Employee Advocate – Assists in creating a work environment in which employees are motivated, resilient and engaged. This includes ensuring consistent HR principles are applied, employee perceptions and perspectives are considered in decisions, employee issues and feedback are followed through and actioned where appropriate, and that effective employee communication is in place.

4. Culture and Values Champion – Inspire desired employee behaviours and beliefs aligned to Community Ventures Values; Respect, Encourage and Care, and in turn, create, shape, and enrich Community Ventures’ culture of collaboration and service.

5. Change Agent – Assist leaders in proactively managing change initiatives that impact people by driving and embedding organisational change initiatives, ensuring effective employee communication and training is provided to support acceptance of change. Act as a conduit to provide employee feedback to drive continuous learning and improvement.

Role Responsibilities

Strategic HR Partnership

- Partner with client group leaders to strengthen leadership and industrial relations capability by providing expert advice, coaching, and practical tools.

- Provide strategic HR input on organisational design, including re-structures, workforce planning, and succession strategies to support long-term business goals.

- Lead and support change initiatives by advising on change management strategies, assessing employee impacts, coordinating support activities, and contributing to the development of clear and empathetic communications.

- Collaborate with leaders to design and implement tailored engagement action plans informed by employee feedback reporting and HR data insights.

- Partner with the Chief People Officer to represent client groups in the development of Community Ventures’ remuneration and benefits reporting and strategy.

- Provide insights and commentary on HR industry trends and workforce metrics, working closely with the HR team to develop initiatives, programs, and policies that support business objective.

Operational HR Partnership

- Foster solid working relationships with leaders and employees to enhance engagement,



improve workplace culture, and drive productivity and retention.

- Participate in client group meetings and regular one-on-one sessions with leaders to ensure alignment and proactive HR support.

- Contribute to internal communications and employee engagement initiatives, actively participating in events and activities that support a positive and inclusive workplace.

- Partner with HR specialist team – Talent Acquisition, Workplace Health and Safety, Safeguarding – to align priorities and collaborate to ensure strategic alignment.

Employee/Industrial Relations and Compliance

- Provide expert advice to leaders and employees on the application of HR policies, interpretation of relevant Awards and legislation, and resolution of employee relations matters.

- Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, including performance and disciplinary matters, as well as investigations into bullying, harassment, discrimination, and other industrial relations concerns.

- Leverage Community Ventures HR frameworks and attend employee meetings as required.

- Support the development of the HR team by offering ad hoc coaching, facilitating knowledge-sharing sessions, and presenting relevant case studies to build capability.

- Ensure compliance with Fair Work legislation and other relevant regulatory requirements.

- Maintain a strong working knowledge of employment legislation, applying it to day-to-day employee management to mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance.

- Contribute to the development and implementation of HR policies and guidelines, ensuring they are current, practical, and aligned with legislative requirements and organisational needs.

Capability Building and Learning & Development

- Build employee and leadership capability by identifying training and development needs and capturing these in individual employee development plans and learning and development strategies.

HR Reporting

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRIS, ensuring data integrity across all HR systems generating workforce reports to support strategic decision-making.

- Contribute to ongoing reporting requirements e.g. Workplace Gender Equality Agency.

Safety and Wellbeing

- Collaborate with the Work Health and Safety team to support safe work practices and facilitate effective return-to-work programs.

- Demonstrate personal accountability for safety, working in a manner that does not pose a risk to self or others.

- Ensure a consistently safe and healthy work environment, proactively identifying and addressing potential hazards.

- Respond promptly to any safety concerns related to the working environment, taking immediate action where necessary to mitigate risk.

Other

- Establish clear protocols and systems to ensure all items in the HR inbox are actioned promptly, appropriately assigned to HR team members, and accurately filed.

- Support continuous improvement initiatives and HR projects by contributing ideas, feedback, and hands-on assistance as required.

- Undertake other related duties as directed,



in alignment with organisational priorities and team objectives.

Skills And Experiences

Role Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

- Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.

- Minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in a generalist Business Partner role.

- Strong working knowledge of Australian workplace legislation, employment law, and modern awards.

- Demonstrated experience in managing complex employee relations issues autonomously.

- Demonstrated hands-on experience and knowledge in day-to-day HR operations, with the ability to work independently and in line with best practice.

- Demonstrated change management skills, with the ability to anticipate change needs, facilitate discussions, and support the development of change plans and communications.

- Proven experience is analysing and interpreting workforce data to inform HR planning and decision-making.

- Experience in the not-for-profit or early childhood education and care or community services sector (desirable).

- Understanding of child safety obligations and working with vulnerable populations (desirable).

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.

- Working knowledge of HRIS platforms; experience with ELMO is highly regarded.

- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt messaging to suit diverse employee groups.

- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and empathy in navigating complex people matters.

- High level of discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive information.

- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.

- Cleared National Police Check

- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
