An exciting opportunity is available for a Lawyer or Senior Associate to join a growing Australian Government Corporate & Commercial team in Canberra.

The Team The Australian Government team advises on major projects and programs across capability acquisition and sustainment, ICT and complex goods and services procurement and contracting. The practice also has a strong advisory focus across contract law and broader commercial matters for a range of Australian Government clients.
You will work within a close-knit team of experienced lawyers, gaining exposure to sophisticated government transactions and the full procurement lifecycle. The team provides a supportive environment with strong opportunities for mentoring, client engagement and professional development.
The Role
Based in Canberra, you will advise on significant Australian Government projects and programs across procurement, contracting and commercial matters.
You will gain experience across all stages of the procurement lifecycle, from approach to market design and procurement processes through to negotiations, contract execution and ongoing contract management and performance. The role provides an excellent opportunity to develop a strong understanding of government procurement and build a long-term career advising Commonwealth clients.
Responsibilities include:
- Advising Australian Government clients on significant projects and programs.
- Advising across all stages of the procurement lifecycle, from approach to market design through to contract management and performance.
- Assisting with procurement processes,
negotiations and contract execution.
- Advising on ICT contracting and complex goods and services procurement.
- Providing practical advice on contract law and broader commercial matters.
- Drafting transparent and concise legal advice, communications and commercial documentation.
- Working collaboratively with clients, colleagues and other parties to achieve Australian Government requirements and objectives.
Requirements:
- 2–5 years' post-admission experience, preferably within a commercial legal practice.
- A strong interest in working on Australian Government transactions and projects.
- Experience in project and program work and/or ICT contracting is highly regarded.
- Strong drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders.
- The ability to manage competing priorities while delivering high-quality work.
- A genuine desire to develop a long-term career in private legal practice.
- Ability and willingness to obtain an AGSVA Baseline clearance, with existing Baseline clearance preferred.
- Full working rights in Australia and a valid practising certificate.
