About This Opportunity

Play a hands-on leadership role in the purposeful and effective operation of the Droughtmaster Unit at UQ Gatton. Working in a team-oriented farm environment, you will coordinate daily herd and operational activities, support teaching and research, and help align shared people, machinery and resources across the production animal units. Your practical expertise will contribute to safe, reliable and high-quality farm operations while supporting UQ’s wider vision of creating change together. UQ is also helping build the future agricultural workforce through the AgriSkills Accelerator, a first-of-its-kind program giving university students from diverse disciplines an opportunity to explore careers in Australian agriculture. Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Droughtmaster Unit in consultation with the Farm Manager, including daily work priorities and the allocation of shared staff, machinery and resources.
- Deliver high-quality animal husbandry, fodder production and farm operations, including welfare monitoring, feeding, animal health observations, irrigation, chemical application and equipment operation.
- Provide practical, logistical and technical support for teaching and research activities, including animal handling, site preparation, equipment use, and associated record keeping.
- Promote safe and compliant operations by maintaining accurate herd, operational, inventory and regulatory records and coordinating preventative equipment maintenance and workplace housekeeping.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position at Gatton Campus, from 4 January through to 23 April 2027 at HEW Level 5.

About You





- Completion of a certificate or other relevant qualification in agriculture, agronomy, agricultural engineering or a related discipline, or completion of Year 12 with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education or training.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in bovine husbandry, breeding, nutrition, health, behaviour and production, including animal welfare obligations and ethical requirements relating to animals used for production, teaching or research.
- Demonstrated ability, supported by relevant certificates of competency, to safely operate farm vehicles and equipment such as a front-end loader, forklift, side-by-side vehicle and tractor.
- Appropriate motor vehicle licences, including A, B and C class licences, relevant to operating farm vehicles and equipment.
- Sound knowledge of horticulture, fodder or field crop production, including practical knowledge of irrigation, fertilisation and seasonal production requirements.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including the ability to operate, calibrate, troubleshoot and undertake basic maintenance of equipment used in cropping, fodder production and general farm operations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team, coordinate day-to-day priorities and provide clear practical guidance to other staff.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills,



a commitment to safe and high-quality service delivery, and the ability to maintain accurate records and liaise professionally with staff, students, researchers and farm clients.
