Hutchison Ports Australia is seeking an experienced Mechanical Tradesperson to join our Sydney Engineering team and support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our terminal equipment and fixed assets.

This role is suited to a trade-qualified Diesel Mechanic, Fitter, Fitter and Turner, Mobile Plant Mechanic or dual trade professional with experience maintaining heavy equipment, mobile plant, cranes, industrial machinery or similar operational assets.

As a Mechanical Tradesperson, you will carry out planned and breakdown maintenance across terminal equipment, diagnose faults, complete repairs, support equipment reliability and ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with Hutchison Ports policies and procedures.

About The Role Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Mechanical Tradesperson will perform scheduled maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs and general maintenance activities across Hutchison Ports Sydney’s mobile equipment and fixed assets.

The role requires a practical, safety-focused tradesperson who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team, communicate maintenance issues clearly, complete maintenance documentation accurately and help minimise equipment downtime.

You will work closely with the Engineering and Operations teams to ensure equipment availability, reliability and safe operation.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Perform planned maintenance, servicing and breakdown repairs on terminal equipment and fixed assets.
- Diagnose faults and carry out efficient mechanical corrective action on vehicles, machinery and equipment.
- Fit, assemble, inspect and repair mechanical components, metal parts and subassemblies.
- Support maintenance activities across heavy equipment such as cranes, reach stackers,



shuttle carriers and other terminal assets.
- Complete work orders, reports, maintenance records and parts usage documentation.
- Enter completed and outstanding tasks into the Maintenance Management System.
- Identify, communicate and help eliminate lost time caused by equipment issues.
- Liaise with Operations and other internal stakeholders as required.
- Return, clean and maintain tooling and equipment at the end of shift.
- Read and interpret schematic drawings and technical information.
- Identify and report hazards and escalate safety issues or incidents in accordance with company procedures.
- Carry out all maintenance activities safely and in line with Hutchison Ports policies, procedures and standards.

About You You are a hands-on tradesperson with strong fault-finding ability, a safety-first mindset and experience working with heavy equipment, mobile plant or industrial machinery. You are reliable, practical and able to work autonomously when required, while also contributing effectively to a team environment. You communicate technical information clearly and understand the importance of completing maintenance documentation accurately.

You will ideally have experience in ports, heavy industry, transport, logistics, mining, manufacturing, mobile plant, cranes, materials handling or similar operational environments.

Skills And Experience To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Fitter, Fitter and Turner, Mobile Plant Mechanic or similar mechanical trade.
- Experience maintaining heavy equipment, vehicles, machinery,



mobile plant or fixed industrial assets.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic capability.
- Ability to complete servicing, repair and breakdown maintenance safely and efficiently.
- Ability to read and understand schematic drawings and technical documentation.
- Basic to intermediate computer literacy, including use of PCs or tablets for maintenance records and work orders.
- Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to plan and organise work effectively.
- Ability to work autonomously, exercise initiative and contribute positively in a team environment.
- Current C class driver’s licence.
- EWP licence or Elevated Work Platform training.
- Working at Heights training.
- Confined Space training.
- Rigging, dogging or forklift licence.
- Experience with heavy equipment such as ship-to-shore cranes, automated stacking cranes, reach stackers, shuttle carriers, forklifts or similar assets.
- MSIC, or the ability to obtain one.
