The Opportunity To undertake labouring tasks and efficiently operate a range of Council rigid trucks and road plant to meet required standards on maintenance and construction projects.
About Us Banana Shire is situated in Central Queensland, Australia located 120 km west of the growing industrial city and port of Gladstone - and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton.
Our population is approximately 15,000 people spread over 28,577 square kilometres. Major industries in the area include Coal Mining, Power Generation, Beef Production, dryland cropping and irrigation such as Lucerne and Cotton.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate and control tractor and slasher equipment in a protected, efficient and effective manner to achieve programmed maintenance and vegetation management outcomes
- Perform vegetation control, roadside maintenance, reserve maintenance and slashing operations in accordance with Council standards, work programs and safe operating procedures
- Provide high-quality plant operation services to work teams at various locations within and outside the Shire, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently
- Assess work sites and apply judgement to determine safe operating methods, identify hazards and implement appropriate risk controls prior to commencing work
- Conduct pre-start inspections and undertake routine servicing, maintenance and cleaning of plant and equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and Council procedures
- Monitor plant condition and promptly report faults, defects, incidents and maintenance requirements to ensure operational reliability and safety
- Maintain accurate records of plant movements, operating hours, maintenance activities and work completed, as required
- Read,
interpret and apply work schedules, site instructions, plans and operational procedures to deliver required outcomes
- Undertake traffic management activities and implement approved Traffic Control Plans in accordance with relevant legislation, standards and Council requirements
- Identify, record and report declared weeds, environmental hazards or other issues requiring remedial action
- Respond professionally to requests and enquiries from internal and external customers, providing information within the scope of the position
- Perform general labouring and maintenance duties associated with the construction and maintenance of Council infrastructure and assets
- Operate other small plant, equipment and machinery within the employee's competencies, licences and training, as required
- Participate in toolbox meetings, safety briefings and team discussions, contributing to a positive safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives
- Work collaboratively within a team environment while exercising initiative and limited supervision in the performance of allocated tasks
- Assist supervisors and senior staff in identifying opportunities to improve work practices, operational efficiency and service delivery outcomes
- Contribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relations
- Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties, including providing and obtaining information
- Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position, e.g. timesheets
- Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices, as required
- Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as required
- Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training.
Qualifications, Education And Licence Requirements Compulsory
- RIIMPO315E – Conduct Tractor Operations
- Queensland ‘C’ class manual drivers licence
- QLD General Safety Induction – White or Blue Card.
Desirable
- Other Plant Operator Tickets would be highly regarded
- Traffic Management Implementation Plan Competency
- Traffic Controller Competency.
Abilities, Skills And Knowledge Required Compulsory
- Basic literacy, numeracy and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment under minimal supervision
- Sound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices.
Desirable
- Demonstrated experience in the effective operation of heavy vehicles within a maintenance (or construction) infrastructure environment together with knowledge of road maintenance (or construction) techniques.
