Role Description

About Attentv:

We are an cutting-edge tech startup that sits at the intersection of AI and advertising. We've pioneered a hardware product that connects into a venue's existing AV system (like bars and pubs), and uses AI to spot ad breaks and dead moments during live sport, then swaps in a targeted, hyperlocal ad in real time.

We’re at an exciting stage where we have a proven business model and are looking to rapidly scale through partnerships with major organisations in industry. And now we need a team to support that growth.

The opportunity:

You'll be joining a team of four, growing to seven, working out of a premium co-working space in Melbourne. This role has two or three engineers.

As a Platform Engineer, you'll be responsible for our edge device management across our fleet. That means how devices are specified, imaged, installed, updated, monitored, and how they recover from problems before anyone notices.

Own the platform. Examples include:

- Golden image and zero touch provisioning: a locked down Linux image, built in CI, that installers can plug in and walk away from. No SSH access, no return site visits.
- OTA updates: staged rollouts, small test groups, automatic rollback, so a bad update can never take down the whole fleet.
- Monitoring and self healing: remote telemetry (devices sit behind venue networks), watchdogs, and alerts that catch what matters, like a device that looks healthy but has silently stopped working or drifted off clock.
- Time discipline: ad breaks are timed externally with zero margin for error, so you'll own clock sync,

drift tracking, and calibration during install.
- Networking and offline resilience: reliable behaviour behind venue networks, secure remote access, and clean recovery of local data after outages.

Own key hardware and field decisions. Examples include:

- Select and harden the HDMI switching hardware, starting with proving seamless switching between the TV signal and our ad player with no visible delay.
- Optimise cost per venue, including how many feeds one device can drive.
- Build the install guide and commissioning tests to allow simple third party AV installer setup that is self-serve.

What we are looking for:

- Above all, someone ambitious and entrepreneurial, who wants to help build a multi-million dollar business and could grow into a future leader here.
- 3 to 5+ years in infrastructure, SRE, DevOps or embedded systems, with deep Linux fundamentals (systemd, networking, storage, what actually happens at OOM)
- Strong Python or linux background, comfortable on the command line, writing production scripts and services, and working inside a locked-down Linux system (systemd, networking, filesystems, boot process)
- Have run something remote and understands real world constraints and errors.
- Debugs from first principles.
- Writes the runbook, not just the code, and is suspicious of anything that "has been fine for a month"
- Nice to have: IoT or edge fleet experience, HDMI/AV signal-path work, reproducible image building tools (Yocto, Mender, balena-style), or venue/retail deployments.
