Why Smart?

Look forward to working with Australia’s leading and most trusted provider of Employee Management Services, making the benefits of salary packaging, novated leasing, and fleet management readily available to employers and their employees.

Working at Smartgroup offers more than a job. It is a dynamic workplace that matches the enthusiasm for the work you do and ambition for an exciting fast-paced career. We have all been hired for a purpose and a reason.

Every day you will be part of a team that helps support fellow Australians - many working in essential services, corporates, government, and not-for-profits - to take home more money in their pay packets.

We're looking for a customer-focused and data-driven Product Owner to help shape and deliver the next generation of Smartgroup's Fleet SaaS platform.

Fleet is a strategic growth priority and is undergoing a significant transformation. You'll work as part of a cross-functional product team to turn customer and business needs into valuable digital experiences, balancing user outcomes, commercial goals and technical considerations.

Working alongside Product Managers, Designers, Engineers and business stakeholders, you'll help discover opportunities, define solutions and ensure the team is focused on delivering the right outcomes at the right time.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with delivery teams, solving customer problems and defining creative solutions for B2B SaaS products with layers of complexity.

What You'll Do

- Act as the key interface between customers, business stakeholders and delivery teams, ensuring priorities are aligned and understood.

- Work day-to-day with a dedicated cross-functional product squad, providing clarity, direction and ongoing support throughout delivery.

- Translate customer, business and operational needs into clear priorities, actionable requirements and well-defined outcomes.

- Own and continuously refine the product backlog, ensuring work is prioritised according to customer value, business objectives and technical considerations.

- Partner closely with Product Managers and Designers to contribute to discovery activities, validate opportunities and shape effective solutions.

- Collaborate with engineers to break down complex initiatives,

define acceptance criteria and make informed trade-off decisions during delivery.

- Facilitate and actively participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives.

- Partner closely with technology, operations and business stakeholders to manage dependencies, resolve issues and maintain alignment.

- Use customer feedback, operational insights and performance data to evaluate outcomes and inform future priorities.

- Champion continuous improvement within the team, leveraging emerging technologies and AI tools to improve ways of working, delivery effectiveness and product quality.

What we’re looking for

- 3+ years experience working as a Product Owner, Product Manager or similar digital product role within a software, technology or digital environment.

- Strong experience translating customer, business and operational needs into clear requirements and delivery priorities.

- Experience working closely with software engineering teams in Agile environments, with a strong understanding of modern product delivery practices.

- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, navigate ambiguity and make informed trade-off decisions.

- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build trust across technical and non-technical audiences.

- Highly organised and comfortable bringing structure and clarity to complex problems.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, using data and evidence to support decision-making.

- A collaborative mindset with the ability to influence, align and drive outcomes across multiple stakeholders.

- A genuine focus on customer outcomes, balanced with commercial, operational and technical considerations.

- Experience with SaaS products, digital platforms or complex workflow-based systems would be highly regarded.

This role can be based in Melbourne or Sydney.
