About the role

We are looking for a hands-on, freelance sub-editor with high-level production skills. Someone who combines precision with energy, can sharpen copy, weed out any errors and elevate storytelling.

You’ll collaborate with journalists and editors to sub and edit stories, optimise SEO and produce daily newsletters, all while ensuring our output is accurate, engaging and compelling for Crikey's audience.

What you’ll be doing

- Editing and producing Crikey’s articles and newsletters
- Sub-editing, fact checking and polishing text, ensuring accuracy, style, and high editorial standards
- Collaborating with journalists, producers, and freelancers to manage workflow, streamline processes, and meet deadlines efficiently




- Reviewing social media copy to ensure it aligns with Crikey’s voice and standards
- Assisting with comment moderation and maintaining quality and consistency in audience interactions

Skills and experience

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

- Qualified sub-editing skills with meticulous attention to detail and excellent grammar, spelling, and writing standards
- Experience writing and scheduling social media posts, and experience working with WordPress
- A solid understanding of media law, basic SEO principles, and the ability to work under pressure to meet daily news deadlines

We have benchmarked the role at AUD 40 - 60 per hour, commensurate with experience.
